    3. Ken, I have seen Mary Alexander linked as a wife to George online, but I have never been able to prove this. There was a Mary Alexander who married a George Thornton (1752-1807) in Virginia at approximately the same time in history. However, they were wealthy land owners. Our George Thornton was often in court for debts - and too much alcohol. You are correct that Sally Thornton and Thomas Lewis were never formally married. My family lists them as common law marriage. This is probably because of the long relationship proven by the children. In ALL WEST VIRGINIA HISTORY, VOL 3 it states that both Thomas and Sally were dead by the time the deed to their heirs was recorded in Kanawha County on July 27,1820. That is almost 20 years after the marriage license was issued dated 4 NOV 1800. That does not mean that Sally or (Sallie) did not remarry. However, the book does not mention this. I have ordered a copy of the will of George Thornton probated 1807 from the Mason County Clerk. I don't expect to find out much from this document, but I'll let you know if anything turns up. 3. Ken, I will try to send you a PDF file continaing the documentation I have on the Lewis family. I collected it only because of the connection to Sally Thornton. I thought that I might be able to track the Thorntons through the LeMaster or Lewis connection. It includes a picture of John Lewis. I assume this was the John who was born in 1860. It looks like your ancestors were very important people in Point Pleasant. Apparently John was the postmaster in Point Pleasant when this book was printed in 1913. I'm not sure about any of the genealogy that is listed. There was a different level of documentation in 1913 than we use today. You probably have this information, but I thought I would send it anyway. If you every find anything about the Thorntons, please remember me. Thanks, John On Sun, May 20, 2012 at 1:52 PM, JOHN WHITE <johnfwhitejr@gmail.com> wrote: > Ken, > > I have seen Mary Alexander linked as a wife to George online, but I have > never been able to prove this.
