In 1993-4, I filmed the indexes of Mason County Marriages from 1806-1915. After 18 months of putting all 11,000+ marriages into a database, I printed out a hard copy, which I took to Point Pleasant. All day, everyday for two weeks, I spent in the Clerk's office, checking my printout entries against every original marriage license in all 24 bound volumes. I found not only errors, but more than 300 marriages which were not even listed in the handwritten indexes. Then I returned home, and spent another 12 months adding additions and corrections to my database. In September of '96, Clearfield/GPC said they wanted to publish my index, and they did. It is currently out of print, after two printings, but I do have four copies remaining, which I will autograph for anyone who is interested in acquiring one.
