    1. Meigs Email Listserve Meeting
    2. Mark Meinhart
    3. I am emailing the surrounding counties of Meigs County this year. Below is information about our meeting, our 3rd, that we have planned for next month. If you have Meigs Roots in you family ancestry, please try to make it. On August 4th, 2001 we are having a meeting in Meigs County. It will be at the Old Legion Hall on South 4th Street, with parking acoss the street, in Middleport, Ohio. (There is a New Legion Hall Annex across from the Post Office on Mill Street-DO NOT GO THERE). The building is air-conditioned, tables and chairs to host 100 people, and good lighting. We had about 40 people with last years meeting and I think for the most part everyone had a good time. It was suppose to be FUN and I think the one's that came had FUN. I will be announcing the upcoming years things I have planned for the listserve. I hope to have a Demo Copy of the Meigs CD to play around with. It will be open to us at 9:00 am. I really don't want to hold to an agenda, but here is what is being proposed. You don't have stick with it at all, you can come between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm and meet with whomever during those times. Must be out of parking area by 5:00 pm, due to Bingo. Most of the researchers leave by noon in the past. 9-12:30 Arrive, mingle, meet people, etc. 12:30 Tour area, visit a cemetery, go wherever, or stay and mingle even more. Meigs Library (Open for the Day) Meigs (Genealogy) Museum (1-4:30) Meigs Chester Courthouse/Museum (Open) (Time to be Announced) Meigs Court House (Closed) With most people traveling to this meeting, feel free to bring a non-meal dish (desert/snack/etc.) to share if you can. Bring your main meal from one of the food establishments in the area or go to one of them for lunch, it's up to you. There is a pay phone to order Pizza's or something, if you so desire. If you have an interest in Meigs Research, you are invited along with your families. You don't have to be a member of the listserve or any society. If you have Meigs genealogy to share, bring it with you. That's one of the main purpose of this gathering. If you know someone coming with interests in you family line, arrange your own personal meeting to share information. I will be bringing my Meigs Reference Books and that's about it, unless there is something else you want me to bring. I will mingle around like I did last year. Merry Anne will also be there with her Meigs Reference Books. I will have some maps of Meigs to help you find what you are looking for. Looks like Sandy Hayden will be bringing a copy machine this year again and will cost 5 cents a copy, honor system. For those that don't know, I was not born in Meigs, and really don't know as much as a person born there. If you are one of the locals from Meigs, please come and share your knowledge of where things are to help us outsiders-Thanks. Also, when you come to the door a $1 donation will be asked for the hall rental-Thanks. LINK TO WEBPAGE ABOUT THIS MEETING, DIRECTIONS (MAPS), PLACES TO STAY, ETC. http://members.fortunecity.com/hunter_gale/meigsmeeting.html This link has been advertised with the regular email messages a few times since last year. I don't know if any of you picked up on it or not. Hope to see you there, ^ ^ . . Your fellow rooter, O Mark "Gramps" Meinhart (~) Meigs Listserve Coordinator "The only thing that stays the same is: Everything changes!" PS: This letter was sent to me recently, which makes the meeting better. Hi Mark: Kay Fick asked if we could have the museum open on Saturday afternoon, August 4, 2001. This will be fine, we'll be there from 1:00 - 4:30. We also want to make another offer to those coming to Meigs County for your meeting. We would like to have a lock-in type of evening (will be a charge for this) and have the museum open from Friday evening, August 3, 2001, beginning at 7:00 p.m. until Saturday morning, August 4, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. for them to use the museum library for research. We will have to charge for this and have reservations in advance, so we will know how many to prepare for. We set the fee at $25.00 per person and this includes snacks and beverages throughout the night, as well as a continental style breakfast in the morning. We'll also give a 10% discount on publication purchases made at this time. Any copying fees will, of course, be an additional charge, but we'll even lower those charges for this special event. Those attending will have access to all library materials, and we have added quite a few new publications from surrounding counties since last summer, as well as some new Meigs County materials. We'll have duplicate copies of most of the Meigs County published material, so sharing shouldn't be too difficult. We are only offering this evening to those on your listserve, and will not be publicizing it anywhere else. We can accommodate 20 to 25 people. For those interested in spending the evening with us, please send reservations, with $25.00 fee, to: Meigs County Historical Society, P.O. Box 145, Pomeroy, OH 45769 by July 31, 2001. Or call us during regular hours, Tuesday through Friday - 1:00 to 4:30 at 740-992-3810. We think this will be a fun evening - give people an opportunity to discover what all is available in the Meigs County Historical Society Museum Library - and could even save them a motel bill for the night. Bring a sleeping bag, if you think you'll want to take a nap. We'll have plenty of coffee to keep you awake - otherwise. We'll re-open on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for those who want to visit us at that time. Oh, by the way - our pre-publication price for the Meigs County History, Volume III is now past, and the price has increased to $59.50 for pick-up at the museum or $64.50 for mailing. We expect delivery by the first of October, 2001 - and will be giving the company a final order total soon. So, we encourage anyone who wants a copy to order it right away - there may not be any extras ordered, and will be only a minimal number if any additionals are ordered. For those who visit the museum during our "lock-in" and wish to place their order then - we'll give the 10% discount. As a special incentive for those visiting on Saturday afternoon, August 4th, we'll give a 5% discount on all publications, including ordering Volume III. This offer applies only during the times stated and purchases must be made at that time. We hope to see several of you at the Meigs County Museum.
