The story is that when the fire happened that someone who lived close to the courthouse found the records lying outside around the courthouse and took them and stored them at her house and then she donated them to WVU. There was a misunderstanding...Mason County Court officials thought that they were being returned but they are now part of the archives at the WVU library in Morgantown.
