Barbara, To add to what Julie has told you about Graham Station... It is just up river (east) of New Haven and down river (west) of Racine Locks and the town of Letard along the Ohio River. There is a coal fired electrical power plant called Phillip Sporn (owned by American Electric Power or AEP) at Graham Station. The area called Broad Run is in the hills behind (south) of Graham Station. The creek called Broad Run flows north to join Seaman Run and they empty into the Ohio River at New Haven. The Little Broad runs at the foot of the hills in the river valley and skirts the edge of Graham Station. Besides the Phillip Sporn Plant, there is a fairly new (1950-60?) cemetery at Graham Station (my dad, grandparents and other family are buried there). Try searching on TopoZone.com for "Graham Station" or "New Haven." TopoZone.com has USGS (United States Geological Survey) maps and they will show you the exact location. Graham, from New England. The concept was that of a Shaker-style, vegetarian-based, communal living community, similar to Bronson Alcott's place. It lasted less than five years, and the only two legacies left by it, were the name of the place, and a molasses-sweetened, unleavened baked item known as the Graham Cracker. Julie
Hi, Barbara, Graham Station is now only an area near Broad Run--my hubby's father and grandfather were born there. For documentation on anyone in that area, you write to the Clerk, Mason County Courthouse, Point Pleasant, WV, 25550. As for price--I don't think it's more than a few dollars, but if you sent a M.O. for $5, I'm sure it would cover it. Perhaps Kathy, the Mason Co. GenWeb coordinator would know. Kathy? Lynn, By state law, passed 15 Mar 1861, all marriage licenses were required to show the following information: 1. Time of Marriage 2. Place of Marriage 3. Full Names of Parties Married 4. Age of Husband 5. Age of Wife 6. Condition of Husband (widowed or single) 7. Condition of Wife (widowed or single) 8. Place of Husband's Birth 9. Place of Wife's Birth 10. Place of Husband's Residence 11. Place of Wife's Residence 12. Names of Husband's Parents 13. Names of Wife's Parents 14. Occupation of Husband Order a photocopy of Oscar & Josie's marriage license from the Mason County Clerk's office at Pt. Pleasant, WV. It will give you the above listed information. I believe a copy will cost you $2.00. Be sure to send a M.O., not a personal check. They will wait 1-2 weeks for a check to clear, before they send you anything--most courthouses are like that. Also send a SASE, and be sure to THANK THEM, THANK THEM, THANK THEM!!! It paves the way for the next genealogist who pesters their limited staff for that elusive tidbit needed. Good luck, and Happy Hunting! Julie [email protected] wrote: > > Trying to find the Jordanâs from West Virginia. > > Oscar Jordan b. 1887 Putnam Co. d. 1979 Kanawha Co. > m. Hi, Dan, Long time, no hear; congratulations on your diligence in tracking me down! :) I move frequently because of my hubby's job, so I can be pretty hard to keep up with.... Hi Julie, I have a copy of their marriage license and as you said all the information is there except the names of their parents which I am seeking. I am going to send for a copy of her birth certificate now that I know she was born in Mason Co. Do I obtain it through the same Clerk? Lynn

Julie You sent me the attached e-mail back in April 1999. I know it has been a long time, but I have a couple questions. 1. Do you do Newell research? 2. Are the dates you provided in the e-mails marriage dates? 3. Where did these dates come from, they would not have been in the census. 4. Your notes V 2 p 006 and V 2 p 006, what does this refer to? I appreciate any help you can provide. I am looking for someone who has done research on this family. It is not my direct line, but my grandfather, Andrew Hughes, married Flora Newell in 1874 just a few months before she died. He then lived with the Newells till about 1883 when he remarried my g grandmother, Marie Elizabeth Knappenberger. He named my grandfather after Flora's father, naming him William Preston Hughes. Thanks Dan Grammer "Hesson, Julie" wrote: > Dan, > I don't know if you have these dates, so am sending them. > > Julie Hesson > [email protected] > > Dan Grammer wrote: > Preston > > Newell or Newal with his wife Rebecca in the 1870 Census. > > NEWEL, Preston & PARSONS, Rebecca *11 Dec 1854 V 02 p 006 > > >Preston with his parents Jacob and Frances in the Mason Co 1850 census. > > NEWELL, Jacob & JACKSON, Mary 28 Sep 1819 V 01 p 006 > > > > > > Dan Grammer

Hi, Patti, By now you have received the order info; I posted it to another list, and was severely chastised for breaking Rootsweb's rules against selling anything on the boards. So all I can do is hope folks will check the archives for the intro message I sent, or respond to me privately, as you did. Thanks! Julie

Cox, Elvira born about 1852. I have nothing on her parents, siblings or where exactly she was born although I do assume (and my wife would kill me for assuming anything at any time) that she was born in western West Virginia. She married George Doolittle who I have traced back to 1511 but I can't seem to break through the wall for grandma. Thanks in advance... Dutch
