    2. Regina, Do you know that West Virginia University Library has newspaper microfilms for many of the newspapers in West VA, including Point Pleasant's, and they are available on interlibrary loan? I live in NE Ohio and have ordered some of these (late 1800's and early 1900's) and have gotten alot of info from them. The WV Archives in Charleston also has many WV newspaper microfilms but did not loan them out. Hope this helps! Karen Hensley Hollinger

    3. The Point Pleasant Register started as a weekly newspaper in 1862 and is still in business as a daily paper. I do believe the library may have those and also there were a couple of other papers that they have. Best bet would be to write to them and ask their address is 508 Viand Street, Point Pleasant, WV 25550. 1. [WVMASON] Samuel & Eliza Christy, parents of Thomas?
    2. Mary L Cervantes
    3. Dear list, I recently looked at my late mother's census research which would have been done within a year of her death in 1987 (before computerized info). She followed the Cabell and Mason County census information and noted the following: Thomas Christy, age 25, and his wife Jemima, age 30, appear on the 1860 Cabell County census. Children listed are: Jerome, age 7, [James] William (my g-grandfather), age 1, and Dekalb Hughes, age 14. They also appear on the 1870 Cabell Co. census that includes another son, Jefferson, age 8. Thomas and Jemima Hughes Christy are my gg-grandparents and Thomas is my brick wall. By the 1880 Census, James Wm had moved out with his new wife (Priscilla "Fannie" Bush), and appears on the Mason Co. Clendenin Dist. Census, with his wife ("V.F."-- mis-spelling for Priscilla (aka Permelia) Frances) and their first child, Hattie May Christy, age 7 months. James Wm and Priscilla Bush Christy are my g-grandparents. Dekalb Hughes had also moved out of the Christy household by 1870, since he married jame Ann Bowen in 1865. He was the son of Jemima Hughes and a "Mac" or "Mach" McMullin according to the History of Mason County. My mother did not have a census record for Thomas and Jemima after 1880, but we have Thomas' DOD as 1893 and Jemima's as 1890, so it is possible that Jemima had already died by the 1890 census, and that Thomas' record was lost with the other 1890 records. But here is the potential gold mine! On the 1850 Mason Co. Va/WVa Census, for Clendenin District, there appears: Samuel, age 34, Eliza, age 40 Thomas, age 22 --my gg-grandfather?...the age is not "right" if he was 25 in 1860. ( All indicators show that Jemima was 5-7 yrs older than him) Abraham, age 19 Amanda, age 15 Emily, age 12 Now, if the ages are more or less accurate, Thomas and Abraham and possibly Amanda were NOT the children of Samuel, but rather were Eliza's children from a previous marriage. Does anyone have any info that might shed light on Samuel and Eliza who may be the parents of Thomas Christy/Christie who m. Jemima Hughes in 1851 in Gallia Co. Ohio? I'll be glad to share any and all information. Mary Cervantes, gg-granddaughter of Thomas and Jemima Christy/Christie Researching: Christy, Hughs/Hughes, Bush, Doss, Eads...
