    1. Correction: Francis FORD/Robert LEWIS/Spotsylvania Co., VA
    2. Close, but no cigar. Fauquier Co., VA does not border Spotsylvania. Tim Spradling

    1. Francis FORD/Robert LEWIS/Spotsylvania Co., VA
    2. In Fauquier Co., VA there is a Francis FORD in the PPT listings in 1798 and 1799 with a Richard FORD and James FORD he is paying taxes on. There is a Francis FORD in the 1810 VA Census in Spotsylvania Co., which borders Fauquier, within 11 households (based on visitation of the Census taker) of Robert LEWIS, s/o Fielding LEWIS of Kenmore. Robert, was a nephew of George WASHINGTON. Richard FORD first appears by himself in 1809 in Fauquier in the PPT listings and the 1810 VA Census. Richard leaves Fauquier in the PPT listings about the same time he shows up in Mason Co., VA in 1820 in the Census and PPT. Richard has some connections to Howell LEWIS, a Brother of Robert LEWIS above, as he lives near him (visited by the PPT collector on the same day) in Mason Co., VA in 1820 and 1821. In addition, Howell's Children (and their spouses) give Richard FORD 400 acres of Land in Mason Co. for one dollar in 1826 after Howell dies in 1822. Richard states in the Deed he has known these Children for a long time. Since he has only been in Mason for six years, I feel this Richard FORD is the one in Fauquier in 1798/99 in Frances' HH and perhaps in Spotsylvania after that (till he reappears in the 1810 VA Census in Fauquier Co. and the 1809 PPT listing too) with Frances. I will have a chance to check the PPT listings tomorrow to see if Richard & James FORD are with Frances in Spotsylvania in 1800, after they disappear from Fauquier. If anyone has information on these Families that are linked in some way I would appreciate it. Thank you. Tim Spradling, descendant of Richard FORD.

    1. Mason Co., VA Richard FORD's Wife
    2. Looking for the Wife of Richard FORD. Richard was in Mason Co., VA from 1820 - 1827, when he died intestate. He and his Wife may have come from Fauquier Co., VA (there is a Richard FORD there that leaves the PPT listings about that time). They had four Sons and two or three Daughters: Emily, Eliza (?), Mary, Alonzo, William, Aldridge & Marshall (Eliza may have been his Wife). Richard was given 400 acres for $1 in 1826 from the Children (and their spouces) of Howell LEWIS' Estate. Howell died in Mason Co. in 1822 and was a neighbor of Richards (according to the visitation dates on PPT listings). I was thinking this must mean Richard married a LEWIS, but as yet have not found a relative of Howell's that fits. If you have any information about Richard's Wife or a thought as to why this gift (Deed) took place, I would appreciate it. Thank you. Tim Spradling

    1. Re: Fielding LEWIS
    2. Thanks PJD. I had that information from Rootsweb, but am trying to see if a female Daughter or Grandaughter of Fielding LEWIS married my Richard FORD of Fauquier Co., VA. There was a Richard FORD (FOARD) in the 1810 VA Census in Fauquier that was in the age range 26 - 44 and a female, probably his Wife 26 - 44. I believe this couple were in the 1820 VA Census in Mason Co., VA. Richard died intestate in Mason in 1827, the year after he received a gift for one dollar of 400 acres of land on the Kanawha River in Mason Co. from the estate of Howell LEWIS (s/o Fielding LEWIS), who died in 1809 in Mason Co., VA at age 38. In this Deed, Richard mentions all Howell's Children and Spouces as people he has known for a long time and that he loves. I believe Richard's Wife was a LEWIS therefore. I think his Wife may have preceded him in death by a few years and he might have been given the property to pass on to his Children who were growing up by then. 1. Aldridge FORD marriage
    2. I'm looking for a marriage for an Aldridge FORD that was in the 1850 VA Census in Doddridge Co. with Family and a Wife Nancy. Aldridge was 35 and Nancy was 34. Their oldest child is an Emily, age 9. Aldridge was in the PPT listings of Mason Co. from 1836 - 1839. He probably got married there or in one of the Counties Doddridge was formed from. There is an older couple in the HH named Willis and Mary. I cannot read their last name very well but it could be Herrel. Willis is 70 and Mary is 65. I am wondering if they are Nancy's Parents or Aldridge's remarried Mother and her Husband. Aldridge was the Son of Richard FORD who lived in Mason Co., VA till he died intestate in 1827/28. I am trying to find the name of Richard's Wife, who I believe may be a LEWIS. Thank you. Tim Spradling

    1. Re: Marriage bonds for Kanawha Co., VA female FERGUSONs 1835 - 1865
    2. A few days ago I sent an e-mail inquiry looking for marriage bonds of female FERGUSONs in Kanawha Co., VA from 1835 - 1865. It turns out the two I found that are very interesting were married in Kanawha before that. Thank you to so many that replied with information. I have found two candidates I am interested in pursuing. One is Nancy FERGUSON, who married Gilmore THOMPSON in Kanawha in 1830. Gilmore and Nancy named almost all of their Children with first names that have family connections to David FERGUSON & Susanna LANHAM of Albemarle. In addition, Sarah FERGUSON, who married Lewis BLAKE in Kanawha in 1831, named a Daughter Nancy and a few of her other Children after family names. Sarah was living next to David P. FERGUSON in Mason Co., VA in 1840 with her Husband Lewis, who died in 1848 (Rootsweb Info). Sarah, 41, is head of household in the 1850 VA Census in Cabell Co. with Nancy her Daughter, 22, and the rest of her Children. She is living in the next Census listing to a John BLAKE, 24, her Son most likely. John could very well be a Brother, which is a Family name. If anyone connects to these people please contact me. My ultimate goal in this investigation is to connect my GGG Grandmother Susan FERGUSON to David & Susanna LANHAM. I'm well on my way, and hope to find a Will or Deed for David in Albemarle or Kanawha that names Susan. I will be in Charleston, WV in early April to visit the Archives and hopefully will tie this down. Thank you. Tim

    1. Richard FORD
    2. I am looking for the marriage of a Richard FORD, my GGGG Grandfather, living in Mason Co., VA (the part that became Putnam in 1847) from at least 1820 (Census data) to 1827 when he died intestate. He is connected to the Howell LEWIS family of Mason Co. in some way. Richard was given 400 acres of land on the Kanawha Co. River in 1826 from Howell LEWIS' Estate for $1 by Howell's Children Robert, George, and his Daughter's spouces. Richard may have married an Eliza LEWIS. An Eliza FORD married a Samuel SUMMERS of Kanawha Co. in 1828. The Richard FORD property was sold in pieces to Samuel from 1832 - 1842 by Richard's Children William, Marshall, Mary Ann, Emily and Alonzo. Census data showed Samuel's HH in Kanawha in 1830 probably contained the Richard FORD Children and Richard's widowed Wife. Richard lived near the Kanawha Co., VA border and on/near the Kanawha River. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Tim Spradling
