    2. Mary L. Cervantes
    3. I have a number of Mayes ancestors with variant spellings Mays and Mayse. Can anyone tell me if all these names are connected? My closest connection is Peter S. Mayse, who m. Margaret E. Hughes/Hughs on Sep 12, 1867 in Mason Co., WV. I have no other info on Peter Mayse himself although, as I said, I have other ancestors with the surnames Mays and Mayes. Margaret E. Hughes Mayse is the d/o Christopher Hughes (1809-1891) and his first wife Rebecca Clemons (1813-Bef. 1891). They had 14 children including one child who died either at birth or in infancy in 1856. Margaret was probably their eldest child, born about 1841. I do not have a death date on her or Peter Mayse but I haven't searched that line in a while. They had 2 children that I know of: Joseph Mayse b. abt. 1864 and Ashebelle Mayse (female) born c 1866. Ashebelle may have been named after her older 1st cousin (once removed) Ashbell Hughes (1847-1926) who was the son of Margaret Hughes (1815-1913) and John Bechtle. Margaret Hughes (1815-1913) was a sister to Christopher Hughes. Both were children of John C. Hughes and Elizabeth Ott and their sister, Jemima Hughes (b. bet. 1819-1822 - d. 1890) is my gg-grandmother and m. Thomas Christy (c1830-1893). Ashbell (male) Hughes appears to have been married 3 times: 1) Viola Catherine Grice (1856-1893) -m. June 23, 1870, in Mason Co. 2) Laura F. Pusey m. August 27, 1898 in Mason Co. 3) Fannie Logue (1853-1903) .m. 1903, place unk. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if Peter Mayse is connected to the Mays or Mayes names. 1. [WVMASON] MASON COUNTY LIST
    2. Greetings to our MASON COUNTY list members. I was made aware of a spam message which had infiltrated our list. I can assure each and everyone of you that it did not come through with my permission. I have final approval of messages which do not meet certain genealogical guidelines. I get a daily summary of them and delete everyone that tries to breach our list. I want to personally thank the lady who brought this to my attention. I wrote her personally and reassured her of my continual monitoring of these type of breaches. As another member mentioned to me the RootsWeb system gets hit with these every single day. Their computers attempt to screen all such posts, but inevitably they get through. What I ask you to do is to bring them to my personal attention, and DO NOT RESPOND to them personally. They get your address and will then begin hacking your mailbox. There are at least five to ten of these hitting the blocking system everyday. I review them daily and always trash 100% of them. NOW lets get on with posting your genealogy, your roadblocks in your lineage and all other research tips we can all benefit from. Yours in MASON COUNTY genealogy! 2. George F. Sanborn Jr.
    3. Hello Jean, I don't know anything about the people whose names you mentioned, but as you may know, the Sanborns all descend from a family who came from England in 1638 and settled in Hampton, New Hampshire. So if you go back a few generations there is certainly going to be a link between my family and yours. Have you looked for your people in the 1899 Sanborn genealogy book? It may be available online through the familysearch.org site (I'm not sure, but worth a look). You might also want to contact the Genealogist for the Sanborn Family Association. It used to be me, but now it is Raymond Wing. Contact wing_genealogist@yahoo.com. They have a database of the above-mentioned book as well as numerous updates and corrections. I know that a lot of the Sanborns went to Ohio, and other states. Good luck filling in the line! My Sanborn research now is focussed on the English ancestry. 3. Thanks for the great tips, George. The Sanborns married into my Chaney line and I always add as much information about the collateral ancestors as I can. George and Rebecca Chaney Sanborn didn't have children so the line ends with them. Good luck with your research in England. Jean On 4/25/2011 11:57 AM, George F.
