    1. [WVMASON] Hughes, Lee's and Hudson's in Mason County
    2. Ron Bestrom
    3. The West Virginia Marriage Records has a Joseph R. Hughes marriage to Mary E. Lee on 8 November 1876 in Mason County, West Virginia. In the 1880 Census they were living in Waggoner, Mason County. Joseph is 26 (but his age was in parenthesis, why, I don't know). Born in Virginia Mary E. is 22. They have children: Andrew S.E. age 2 Joseph W. 9/12. We are looking for a connection to this family to an Annie Hughes. Her Social Security Administration documents indicate her parents were Joseph Hughes and Mary E. Lee. Annie was born circa June (possible August), 1883, (possibly in Camden, WV). The 1900 census for Mason County has Anna Hughes, born August 1883, living with a Nancy Lee. There is a Phelix Hughes also in the household, born Oct 1881. They are listed as Grand Daughter and Grand Son of Nancy. They are living with Phelix Lee, probably the son of Nancy. The 1880 census shows Nancy and her son "Felix" in Robinson, Mason County, So the Felix born in Oct 1881 could be a brother or family member to Anna. Anna Hughes married David Hudson on November 26, 1903 in Mason County. What happened to Joseph Hughes and Mary E. Lee. IF Annie was born to them in Camden, Lewis County, she returned to Mason County to the Lee Family. I can not find Joseph, Mary, or their children as identified in the 1880 census. Any help would be appreciated.

    3. Richard, My ancestor is James Walker who was married to Julia Ann Harrison. James was the brother of your Sarah Francis Walker. I would love to see your information on the Walker family. I have little on my Walkers but would be happy to share. I don't know if this is anything, but years ago there was a Jones family living across the street from my Mother (at Gallipolis) and I remember my Mom telling us that they were related to her Walkers at Mason County but I thought it was through the Robbins (Robins) side. Could this be your Jones'. Just to let all know what fire people were talking about. There were three fires that I know of in March1869 the Preston Co Courthouse burns:all records are destroyed.Charleston was appointed the permanent State capital in1885,In 1921 the State Capitol at Charleston is Destroyed by fire.In 1927--Fire destroys the temporary "pasteboard capitol" built after the old capitol burned in 1921.This is from the WV Timeline. 3. Nancy, Let me say that the History of Mason County WV is a publication of family histories that were submitted by the families. Not all of the families submitted stories, for instance my family of Walker who were in Mason County since the early 1800's are not anywhere to be found in the book. I do have what may be some good news. I have found a William A. Ferguson (carpenter) b. April 23, 1848 m. Harriet Greenlee Dec. 5 1867. Also a John H. Ferguson (carpenter) b. 1845. Both of these, William and John are the sons of Andrew and Rebecca Jividen Ferguson. If these sound like yours, I will email a copy of the page. I did not find anything on Grant, Mertie May and Georgia Fisher or the Womack/Wamack families. There were a couple of Fisher family stories, but none of them mentioned the above names. Donzella

    2. I have been transcribing & organizing some copies my sister & I got a few weeks ago from the WVU Library Archives for our KNAPP & DEWEES/e Family Reunion (Sunday, Sept 2 at Krodell Park in Point Pleasant). This is the only place that I know that has Mason County marriage bonds. We have found a few marriage consents - for underage feamales. We only looked for our family names, so I don't know how many of these survived. We found a signed receipt for a wolf bounty & several court cases. Most everything was from the 1820s. ~Sandi PS - I posted the url to the Lib archives pertaining to Mason County a few days ago on this list. ================= In a message dated 8/31/2007 11:55:26 P.M.
