Now I am really confused. I have Julia as being born in 1828, but you are telling me she is 20 in the 1860 census record. I don't see how that is possible since she married him in 1847. There is a good chance that Julia Eads and Julia White are the same person but we just don't have the facts as of yet. More info needed on the White and Eades names "Matthew D. Hello list... I wonder if someone would be able to clear up some confusion I'm having with Joseph Mayes who married Nancy Ellen Hawthorne, 02 May 1875 in Mason Co. I had recorded him as being the child of John Mayes and Julia Eads (married 1847 in Gallia Co., Ohio). Joseph's death certificate though says his parents were John Mayes and Julia White. Is Julia Eads and Julia White the same person or are we dealing with a completely different family? Thanks, Ronni
Hello, My husband is a direct descendant of Joseph Mayes and Nancy Hawthorne but I too have the name listed as Julia Ann White Eades/Julian. I do not know if White is her maiden name or Eades is, or if she was married before. John Hall Mayes and Julia were married on 15 Jan 1847 in Gallia Co., Ohio. They have 9 children one being Joseph Mayes married to Nancy Ellen Hawthorne them being my husbands great grandparents. Joseph and Nancy married 02 May 1875 in Mason Co., WV. I have quite a bit on both the Mayes lines and Hawthorne lines. Joan F. Hudson jfhudson@sbcglobal.net jacksonriver@gmail.com wrote: Hello list... Ronni, I'll be interested in knowing the answer to your question, too. I have many Eads(Edes, Edds) and Mayes (Mays, Mayse) in my database. I am a ggg-granddaughter of Joseph Alford Eads (1780- 1853) and Judah (aka Julia) Doss (bef.1784-1830/40) of VA who settled in Mason County in the early 1800s through their daughter Mary Ann Eads (1814-1874) who m. Richard Bush (b.1812 or 1814 -d.1874) . However, I do not see either a Julia Eads or a Joseph Mayes in my database although I'm sure they're connected. Good luck, Mary Cervantes jacksonriver@gmail.com wrote: >Hello list... > >I wonder if someone would be able to clear up some confusion I'm >having with Joseph Mayes who married Nancy Ellen Hawthorne, 02 May >1875 in Mason Co. Brick wall #2 for me George Dabney and Martha Forrest Dabney of Mason, VA (WV) George was born in 1817 most likely in Mason, VA. His father was William Dabney and his mother was Martha or "Patsy". William Dabney died in 1827 in Mason, VA. George's brothers and sisters are James, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Robert. George Dabney married Martha Forrest b. 1820/1821 and she dies in Mason, WV on 8-3-1875. They were both buried on what is now the Day farm, 7 mile drive or Jim Hill Rd. No stones remain however. Martha Forrest was the sister of Hosea and Silas Forrest, daughter of William Forrest and Alice Williams. Thanks to all who may know anything about these relatives.
I am taking another stab at my brick walls this holiday season. I am hoping some Santa out there has information on William Lockhart b. 1801 and Lucinda his wife b. 1810 This is all I know about them... 1830 his brother John appears in the Mason County, VA census records 1840 John and William Lockhart are in the census records Mason, VA (now WV) 1850 William Lockhart '' 1860 William Lockhart '' 1870 William Lockhart '' by 1880 both he and Lucinda are gone Each census verifies their birth years as 1801 and 1810. William and Lucinda Lockhart both say they were born in VA. Their children are Mary b. 1844 Amanda b. 1849 Carington b. 1840 Mathew b. 1842 In the 1870 census there is a Joseph Cotrill and Ellen Cottrill living with them. Amanda "Mandy" Lockhart b. 3-12-1849 in VA married Carlisle Bechtle on 9-8-1870 and she died on 6-2-1914 in Mason, WV

Chad, go to the W. Va. Culture site http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx<http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx> she is listed there. FYI, when looking for Mason County deaths, don't type in the county information as a lot of these people went to Cabell County or Kanawha County to a larger hospital. ----- Original Message ----- From: wvmason-request@rootsweb.com<mailto:wvmason-request@rootsweb.com> To: wvmason@rootsweb.com<mailto:wvmason@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 05, 2007 3:03 AM Subject: WVMASON Digest, Vol 2, Issue 90 Today's Topics: 1. ANDREW FRIEND son of NICHOLAS FRIEND (son of JOHN and ANNA (COLEMAN) FRIEND) b: ca. 1741 in Monocacy Hundred, Prince George (now Frederick) County, Maryland d: ca. 1825 in Raccoon Creek, Perry Township, Gallia County, Ohio m(1): Keziah UNKNOWN; ca. 1762 in Hampshire County, (West) Viriginia m(2): Elizabeth PERAGEN; ca. 1796 in Point Pleasant, Kanawha (now Mason) County, (W) Virginia NOTE: I am guessing that Andrew & Keziah (possible HYATT but trying to find proof) were married in that same area where Andrew lived since ca. 1745 w/ftather; as for Andrew & Elizabeth, I am going by what OLD researchers had on this couple, so I am working on documentations on these marriages. ---> MOVED w/Father ca. 1745-1749 (George Washington surveyed the Cacapon River from 1749 to 1750; FRIEND COX - a part of the FRIEND family by marriage - had his land recorded on 25 April 1750; however it is possible Neal's Run (NICHOLAS FRIEND) was surveyed at that time with others, but unable to verified records. George Washington's Journal fail to mention this lot or there must of been a lost page. Nicholas (aka Neils) reported on 4 Aug 1752 - Frederick Co. Court Virginia - Ordered to marked & laid off roads from Neal's Run (Nicholas Friend's land where is the survey) & mouth of South Branch). (VCC 4:226, 228 & 405) ---> FRENCH & INDIAN WAR (1754-1763) but the following land records exsisted: 1755 (252-acres) Long Bottom of Potomac River - Henry Frakes/Friggs (Frakes' Plantation) (Joyner, 4:24) but ANDREW FRIEND purchased this from Henry Frakes/Friggs in 1763 (Gray, 2:150); 1761 (142-acres) Potomac River two (2) miles below the mouth of Little Cacapehon River - Patented to Nicholas FRIEND (Gray, 2:128); 1763 (150-acres) Potomac River three (3) miles below the mouth of Little Cacaphon - Granted for Nicholas & John FRIEND (Joyner, 4:24); 1763 (194-acres) on the Potomac River for John FRIEND (Gray, 2:150). NOTE: I also have many adjacented deeds that mentioned John, Andrew, and Nicholas FRIEND. But I am sure John FRIEND remain in the area but I know that ANDREW moved on to more western parts of Virginia then to the Northwest Territory. ---> PONTIAC'S UPRISING (1763-1765) 1766 (110-acres) on the Potomac River - Patented to John FRIEND (Gray, 2:169). ---> LAND SALE: 1765 (194-acres) - John and Carenhapeck FRIEND sold to Dennis Pursley (Shuck, 34); 1768 (142-acres) - Nicholas FRIEND sold to Lawrence Hass (Deed BK); 1793 (252-acres) - ANDREW FRIEND & Keziah sold to John Hartley (FHL Microfilm 0588704). NOTE: I know that Nicholas FRIEND had to sale the remainder of his land before going back to Maryland or if he didn't sold it then who is this Nicholas FRIEND --> Adjacent Deed: 5 December 1809. Hampshire County; Warrant to William Alderton; Assignee of David Alderton for 13.5-acres; Surveyed: 30 June 1813, on Potomac River; Adjoining: Fryback Greenwall, Nicholas Friend (B2:261) (Gray, 4:76). ---> MORE LAND PURCHASES: 1768 (150-acres) Granted to Nicholas & John FRIEND (Gray, 2:154) ---> TAXES: Dunkard Bottom Virginia - Monongalia County Tax - 1798 - ANDREW FRIEND (201-acres) "now in N.W. Territory" & Augustine FRIEND paid their delingquent taxes (Zinn, 1:275-76). NOTE: If Andrew has to paid a delinquent tax on 201-acres in Dunkard Bottom would there not be any land records to match? During and After 1798 ANDREW FRIEND was in the Northwest Territory with his small family with Elizabeth. So how is it that a man named Andrew FRIEND be around in a certain area and NOT be mentioned in these communities history book! I have ALL the FRIEND family genealogy I need. What I am trying to do is clean it up and verified my direct line from ANDREW (Elizabeth Peragen) FRIEND to NICHOLAS (Unknown) FRIEND to JOHN (Anna Coleman) FRIEND to NILS (Anna Anders) LARRSON FRIEND. I have exhausted the Friend Family Association America for most of their records are from other FRIEND researcher without verifications and documentations. I am using the mention counties because of my sources have mentions those sources. So I am looking for many answers and I am hoping to gain collective minds and resources to find more answers to this part of my FRIEND family. Matt Friend CITATIONS: Gray, Gertrude E. 1993.
