Hello All, Has anyone looked at the WVU Library. Some of the records were sent from Point Pleasant to the library. I do not know the circumstances, but I do know if you can't find them in Mason County, that there are some at WVU that are not in Mason County. Check the WVU Library website. You will find Mason County listed there, do not know if any online or not. I'm looking for anyone who may have any information on Joseph Stewart, a miner, who lived in West Columbia, Mason Co., from at least 1860 to 1880. His wife's name was Mary and they had at least 7 children that I know of. Joseph & Mary were from England. I believe Joseph came to this country in abt 1851 first to Penn then to WV, his first son Joseph was born in Penn in abt 1852 and all the rest of the children were born in WV. The West Virginia Marriage Records has a Joseph R. Hughs marriage to Mary E. Lee on 8 November 1876 in Mason County, West Virginia. In the 1880 Census they were living in Waggoner, Mason County. Joseph is 26 (but his age was in parenthesis, why, I don't know). Born in Virginia Mary E. is 22. They have children: Andrew S.E. age 2 Joseph W. 9/12. We are looking for a connection to this family to an Annie Hughes. Her Social Security Administration documents indicate her parents were Joseph Hughes and Mary E. Lee. Annie was born circa June (possible August), 1883, (possibly in Camden, WV). The 1900 census for Mason County has Anna Hughes, born August 1883, living with a Nancy Lee. There is a Phelix Hughes also in the household, born Oct 1881. They are listed as Grand Daughter and Grand Son of Nancy. They are living with Phelix Lee, probably the son of Nancy. The 1880 census shows Nancy and her son "Felix" in Robinson, Mason County, So the Felix born in Oct 1881 could be a brother or family member to Anna. Anna Hughes married David Hudson on November 26, 1903 in Mason County. What happened to Joseph Hughes and Mary E. Lee. IF Annie was born to them in Camden, Lewis County, she returned to Mason County to the Lee Family. I can not find Joseph, Mary, or their children as identified in the 1880 census. The Cemetery Book's for Mason co says it is "On old Jacob Grimm farm,Long Hollow Road,near home of Clarence Eden.There are only two monument. One is for Eden,Melissa Jane Grimm,B, July 14,1862-Died1885-(2nd ch.Jaob Grimm by2nd wf) monu.; wf of William Eden b july 15, 1861 to Rosel) m. 2nd Sarah J. Lemaster 1888.There are abt 20 graves there all Grimms &Eden but one Scholl,Mary Frances. one Wolfenbarger,Ona Samantha, And on Sampson,Penny Lee,I can more info if you need it but most of this came from the Gramm's Bible; death records,births,deeds.Mrs.Lona Fridley Jones owns the Grimms Bible. I can not help with your search for those two names. They are not listed in Juanita Burdette's Cemetery Inscriptions for Union, Colonge, and Cooper Districts of Mason County.
