Where is Ben Lomond, WV?? Some kind person told me some of the Withers family was born there, and the only "Ben Lomond" that I knew of or found was in northern Virginia, and I explained that the Withers family didn't live quite that far north. Now, I have been sent several references that refer to Ben Lomond, West Virginia. Donzella, Thank you so much for your very helpful email. I am always reluctant to call a courthouse staff and ask for help. Some of them are so busy and consider us genealogists such pests. But I will call her and ask for help with this issue. or write to her. Thank you so much. If it turns out I need "feet on the ground", I will contact you for your daughter's contact information. Another source for info would be the Mason County Court House, 200 Sixth Street, Point Pleasant, WV 25550 - Phone - 304-675-1997 or FAX 304-675-2521 and ask for Dottie Campbell. In the Mason Co. Marriage Book Nancy's last name is spelled NEIGHBERT. Of course the spellings could be varied. My daughter is a member of the DAR and her husband is a member of the SAR. I called my dtr and she suggested when you contact the court house to have them check for a will for Jacob Withers and if there is none to check for a will of Nancy Withers. Also ask if there was any land records. Wills often mention wife, and children even if there was nothing left to them. Dottie has helped my daughter quite often, she was there last month and brought back a lot of records. My daughter Veva said if you do not have any luck with the court house to contact her and she would try to help. So let the list know if you have any luck and if not, I will give you my daughter's email address. I also found a web site for Point Pleasant (location of the county court) http://www.pointpleasantwv.org/ It will give you info on fees and such. Good luck and let us know if we can help you further. I have access to the census records but names of the household were not mention until 1850. Donzella
William Bateman married Mary Jane Withers, 22 Oct., 1840...the record is at the Mason co. Wv. courthouse, according to a ref. book compiled by Julie Chapin Hesson. (I have been told before that book one does not have the parents name indicated...This marriage is referenced by Hesson as 01:032.5...I think that means it's in book one, page 35.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beverly Alexander" <alexbev@comcast.net> To: <wvmason@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2008 2:55 PM Subject: Re: [WVMASON] Mary Jane WITHERS,daugh. of Jacob WITHERS & Nancy NIGHBERT,wife of William BATEMAN (1824 - 1884) Mason Co, VA/WV > Patriot Spencer WITHERS b. 1765 Fauquier Co, VA, d. 24 Apr 1843 Fauquier > Co, > VA (after returning from Clendenin Dist, Mason Co, where he lived from > 1810 > to 1822), m. Would love any help you can give. Also saw a name that you are also doing... NIGHBERT He has a Lavina (Levina) Weibert (Neibert) I was wondering if this might also be a part of your research , since this name is seen several ways... She married Phillip (Philip) Leonard.
