According to the book, "West Virginia Genealogy Sources & Resources" by Carol McGinnis (c. 1988), this is what is listed under Marshall County: "Marshall [County] was formed in 1835 from Ohio County. Its boundaries have not changed since its formation. County seat is Moundsville (26041). First settled in 1769. Records begin on the following dates: marriage, land, probate, court, 1835; land tax, 1848; birth, death, 1853; and naturalization, 1900."
