I recently bought a laptop and tried to install Family Tree Maker from my original CD. The program wouldn't install (CD is probably corrupt or whatever), and as I was leaving on business that day, I couldn't make time to fool with it. Instead, I remembered that Vernon Anderson had stated that Family Origins was as good or better in his opinion and so I bought Family Origins for Windows Version 6.0 for $10 on my way to the airport. Well, Vernon is right, it is a good program and a lot better deal than the $60-70-80 one might pay for Family Tree Maker, with all the quasi-useless CDs included. Broderbund makes FTM while Family Origins is made by Parsons Technology, a Broderbund Company. My hurriedly made Gedcom file on a floppy loaded just fine into the new program. So, if anybody is in the software market soon, one might consider F.O. for W. Joel M. Robinson
