    3. The following obituary appeared February 7, 1928 the Washington Observer and February 8,1928 in Canonsburg Notes. Mrs. Mary Jane Dowler Holmes, aged 83 years, widow of John Holmes, died Monday [Feb.6] in the home of her son, T. Clyde Holmes, Woodrow. Her death was due to the infirmities of her advanced years. Mrs. Holmes, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Elizabeth Dowler, was born in Marshall county W.Va.[sic], June 1,1844. When she was nine years of age the family removed to this county where she had resided ever since, the most of her life being spent in the West Middletown area. She leaves the following children: James E. Holmes, Houston; Mrs. R.S. Flanegin, Imperial; Mrs. Henry Vogle, Hickory; John D. Holmes and T. Clyde Holmes, both of Woodrow. A sister, Mrs. Margaret Wood, of St. Louis, Missouri, also survives. Funeral services will be held in the home of her son T. Clyde Holmes, Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. The interment will be in the West Middletown Cemetery. [email protected]
