there are many ways of finding people. You might be able to find some information on your dad's ss# by writing to the Soc Sec, and requesting a copy of his file. I have also found over 300 John Gamble in the SSDI records on line one of these maybe your gr grandfather as well. Where was your dad buried? may try to locate that Cemetery, and ask if they have a John H. Gamble in there. and if so, go to the local newspaper archives, and look up his obit, you can learn a lot by obits. Was he a veteran? you can also receive a copy of his records, Military as well as medical files. (if they have not burned them up that is) there are census records that are available that could give you another clues as well as information on your family line. Tax records, land records for that area you may find something there. I ask the living oldest relitives and see what they said about him. Good Luck....
