[email protected] -------------------------------------- I am Vernon Pyles of Pine Grove, WV. I was born 3 Jan. 1918 at Silver Hill and have lived most of my life in Wetzel County. My father, James Blaine Pyles was born and lived at Silver Hill and my mother, Jessie Lee Calvert Pyles, was also born and lived in Wetzel County. They had six children and I was the eldest of four boys and two girls. Therefore I had to assume responsibilities pretty early in life and had to help along with the younger ones, especially my two sisters, Eloise and Doris. I went to school at Carneys Run and American Ridge. I received my high school diploma at New Martinsville. I enlisted in the Army and was among the first to leave Wetzel Co. in Jan. 1941. There were 16 of us that left Wetzel County at that time. Most all of us were together for fifteen to eighteen months, then were sent many different ways. I was in seven different countries of Europe during WWII and received three battle stars. I was discharged 18 Nov. 1945. 9April 1942, 1 married Garnet Lemasters, the second daughter of Walter and Lula Poole Lemasters. Her parents were born at Wileyville and lived in Wetzel Co. most of their lives. To us were born three daughters; Donna; Mary and Carol. They all attended Valley High School at Pine Grove, WV. Donna then went to B. M. Spurr School of Nursing at Reynolds Memorial Hospital and worked as a practical nurse. She is now married to Donald Westen and lives in Moundsville, WV. Mary attended beauty college at Parkersburg, WV and worked at Paden City as a beautician. She married David Kemp of Paden City and they have three children: Alicia Ann; Michael David and Erica Dawn. Carol attended W.V.N.C.C. and works as an R. N. at the New Martinsville Health Care Center. She is married to Edwin Livingston, Jr. and lives on a farm at Middlebourne, WV, with their daughter Jessica. We are members of the Church of Christ, of which I am one of the elders at Pine Grove. Iworked for the Pennzoil Co. for 23 years.
