    3. Hi All: Regarding Captain Michael Cresap. I am not related to the Cresap family but I find this family very interesting. I have an article on the Cresap family somewhere. I could dig it up if anyone is interested. There is also a Cresap family book in the Moundsville Library and the Cresap's have a web page on the internet. Captain Michael Cresap died 18 OCT 1775, New York, and is buried in Trinity Church, New York, NY. He became ill, and died, while leading a company of Maryland Sharpshooters. His son, Michael Cresap, was born 7 OCT 1775, Oldtown, MD, just 11 days before the death of his father. This Michael Cresap lived in Marshall County, at Cresap's Bottom, where Mitchell Power Plant now stands. He died in 1860 and was buried in the Cresap family cemetery. His wife was Hannah Ogle who was born 1785 and died 1862 and was buried in the Cresap cemetery. In 1967, during the construction of Mitchell Plant, Grisell's Funeral Home was contracted to move those buried in the Cresap Cemetery. Pictures were taken of this process. Michael & Hannah Cresap were buried in metal/lead caskets, which were mummy shaped. These caskets also had viewing windows and were in perfect condition. Everyone who was buried in this cemetery was moved to, I believe, Graysville Methodist Church Cemetery. New tombstones were placed on some of the graves, I am not sure who had this done. I became involved in making sure all those buried in this cemetery were moved, in the summer of 1997, during some new construction. As far as anyone could determine everyone was moved. There was also some concern as the Cresap family slaves were supposed to be buried under the Cresap family. No remains were found. Thought you all might find this interesting.
