I just wanted everyone to have a second opinion about "Sherrard, Then and Now". I grew up in Sherrard and left when I was 20, and Lois' book, in my opinion, is the definitive guide on the history of our community. It is obvious that a great deal of time and love went into every page of this book. I conceder it one of my most valuable books in my collection. One is "Historical Collections of Moundsville, West Virginia." Originally compiled by J. H. Brantner, it is sold by the Marshall County Historical Society. It contains information not found online or in the other Marshall County History books that I have seen. Because it specifically pertains to Moundsville, there is more detail about certain aspects of the early settlements, the industries, newspapers, etc. - -The cost is $27.50. Marshall County Historical Society P. O. Box 267 Moundsville, WV 26041 The other book is "Sherrard, Then and Now" by my friend, Lois Edison. There is an abundance of info about the history and the families of Sherrard. I have not talked to Lois about the book since it first came out but this is the info I had about it previously: The cost is $28.15, including postage. WV residents must add an additional $1.50 for sales tax. Send orders to: Lois Edison, R. D. #3, Box 202, Wheeling, WV 26003. In case I didn't tell you about my friend, Lois, we graduated from Sherrard High in 1965. I became an RN but Lois didn't go back to school until a few years ago. This past May, she graduated from the Northern Community College in Wheeling and is now a Respiratory Therapist. The best part is that she was the VALEDICTORIAN of her class! I am SO proud of her. - - I might add that she just had her 55th birthday - so it is never too late to start a career. Also on the subject of Sherrard High, I want to say that a few days ago, I was very pleased to get an email from my high school Home Ec teacher, Elizabeth Kessinger Booth - "Peggy Booth." She was a brand new teacher when she came to Sherrard High when I was a freshman. I recall her engagement, marriage and first child! She was a wonderful role model and I cannot begin to tell you how much I learned from her! Finally, if you have not looked at the Cockayne House site, please take a look at the October Events page. I was going to try to make it up for the event on Oct 4th but my doctor thinks it is too soon for me to be traveling and dealing with luggage. - - I did, however, donate something for the auction.
