    1. Round Bottom
    2. Hello, 1.) Round Bottom is just south of Moundsville along the Ohio River/WV Rte. 2, generally, from the mouth of Big Grave Creek, (near the State Police Barracks/Sewage Plant) south to Washington Lands. This bend in the Ohio River, just south of Moundsville, is, I believe, the sharpest one in the river. It was referred to as "Devil's Elbow" or "Devil's Bend" by rivermen, according to a late employer, Joe Bettinazzi, of mine who worked on the river before going into the mines. At times while traveling "south" on WV Rte. 2, one is actually going almost north! I watched many barges crash into the riverbank when I was a bartender at the Prima Marina. 2.) The town/area south of Wellsburg, WV is Beech Bottom. 3.) Yes, all of what is now WV was part of VA in 1798. There were some disputes with PA about the Northern Panhandle, but I think those were settled by that time. 4.) Round Bottom Hill is the hill above the river bend/Round Bottom. Joel M. Robinson
