Her husband, John Shimp, had died and she had not yet given birth to their youngest child, John. She must have moved to Moundsville before that event. I know that in the 1850 census for Monroe County, Ohio John is listed as 20 years old and in his family are Rachel, 55, Susanna, 36, and Barbary, 22. His home joined William D. Shimp, and Jonas D. Shimp, his brothers. Also joining them was his sister Hanna Shimp who married Albin Rigg, they had Rachel Rigg, 5, Isaac Rigg, 4, John Rigg, 3 and Jonas Rigg, 2/12. The other brother, Isaac Shimp lived in Highland township, Belmont Co., Ohio in 1850. In the 1860-70s they had crossed the Ohio and lived in Marshall Co. WVa. In 1870, William D. moved to Lucas Co. Iowa and in 1881 James Edward Shimp, my grandfather, son of Jonas D. Shimp and Sarah B. Catlett, had moved to Lucas Co. Iowa also. My father was born there in 1886. He doesn't show on the 1885 state census, and since the 1890 census was destroyed, the first time we see him by name, Lloyd Clell Shimp,is the 1900 Green Co, Mo. census. I would like to exchange information with you. Virginia Shimp Rigby
