Yes, it does sound that we're connected...It's been on my mind to go over around Cameron, WV and hunt up some cemeteries...Do you live close to the area? Thanks for explaining to me about census data, which probably makes a lot of sense for the reasons for all the discrepencies. My email is jdjsmburke@1st.net and would love to be able to email privately back and forth on this if possible..since we are just sorting out bits and pieces anyway...It sounds like the Chambers' church background was in the Christian Church, and I know there's a big Christian Church cemetery around Cameron. I would appreciate getting your present and future email address also.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AEC.2ACE/243.294.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Debbie, I believe the reason for the various birth locations stems from the fact that they were located in Cameron, just across the line from Green Co., PA. There was also a lot of confusion for them as to how to answer the question of VA vs WVA. I think the age changes and people appearing & disappearing is likely from information given by neighbors. Sometimes the census information was given by an older child rather than the parents. All said and done, I am also convinced that these are the right Samuel & Lucinda. Debbie, I do have all of the census info you gave me. I sure wish there was a way to check the exact addresses. I'd like to find where Lydia, Sam & Lucinda are buried. I have a ton of unsorted info, much of which I got online. I'm so very busy with spring yard work, taxes & work I can't see straight. I'll be getting back to this line in a few weeks. My E-mail address will change May 8 as I've signed up for DSL and will no longer need AOL. I'll notify you. Is there a direct E-mail where I can contact you? Sandy

    1. Marshall County Wva Historical Society
    2. David---the Marshall Co., Wva Historical Society is located in Moundsville (population about 11,000) at 13th Street and Lockwood Ave.. They have a fee-for-membership and can be contacted by mail at PO Box 267 Moundsville Wv. 26041 It's located near their riverfront park on the southside of town. Their Public Library also has a small but good genealogy department. On my original visit I first contacted their Chamber of Commerce 522 7th St. in Moundsville, phone 304:845-2773 to obtain a little background on the area. If you stay in the area try to visit the Delf Norona Museum at Grave Creek Mounds State Park. The exhibits of the town's original native inhabitants are very interesting. Karen, in Seattle

    1. Research sites
    2. May I also add that I found the New Martinsville Library to have an extensive genealogy collection which I found very helpful in my MOORE, MEYER, DARRAH, SINE, FUCHS research. They had at least 1000 books covering a wide area of West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio. In fact most of the libraries I visited on both side of the Ohio River seemed to have very good genealogy collections. Doris Meyer Tobias

Court House is located on 7th street in Moundsville,WV. There is a Historical Society in Moundsville, but I can't remember the name of the street but someone at the courthouse might know. Other courthouses would be in Wheeling which is Ohio County in WV; New Martinsville, WV for Wetzel Co. The names I am researching aren't in these counties so I can't tell you exacting where they are although I live in Marshall County

    1. Re: Marshall Co. tax, land records - NOBODY KNOWS?
    2. David, Some time ago, while visiting and doing some family tree research in West Virginia, I visited the Marshall County Courthouse at Moundsville and I was allowed to look at the Table of Land Tracts books. The books I seen were from 1848 to 1895. I could not find the books for 1857 and 1858. These books are not in the main office of the county clerk. They are located in a vault outside of the clerk's office in a hallway. The vault was small and I would have to say it was not very neat in the vault either. I don't know what else they had in that vault but I hope to go back again someday to finish where I left off. Sometimes the people who work in the courthouse don't know half of what they got when it comes to looking for the old records. A researcher from Wetzel County found the naturalization paper of my third great-grandfather, John Ira PEGG Sr. in the Marshall County Order Book. I would never have known to look there myself. The clerk in the office told the researcher that they didn't know that they had that either. I hope the Land Tract Books is something you are looking for. As far as the tax records, I would not know about that but it is my opinion that they should be there in the courthouse someplace. I am not from Marshall County nor do I live in West Virginia but I have been to the courthouse there in Moundsville several times and I have had no trouble checking the old records. Good Luck John W. PEGG

    1. DAR Information
    2. Anne
    3. I thought the people on this list would be interested in the following information. Anne FL The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) http://www.dar.org/natsociety/default.html on 18 October 2002 in the gallery at the DAR Museum in Washington, D.C. will open to the public an exhibition called "Forgotten Patriots: African American and American Indian Service in the Revolutionary War, 1775-1783." The exhibition will explain the methods NSDAR used to identify these men and women and will recognize the work of the DAR Genealogy Department and the DAR Library, which recently published AFRICAN AMERICAN AND AMERICAN INDIAN PATRIOTS OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR, 200 pp., available ($12 postpaid) from the DAR Store, 1776 D Street N.W., Washington, DC 20006-5303.
