Oh, for crying out loud ... or should I say griping out loud! I can't tell you how many times I have visitied other county sites and wished - mightily - that they were as well organized and up to date as yours. Some counties haven't had anything new added in over two years! Your sites have new items added all the time. The recent addition of the Antill Funeral Home pages was a GREAT help to me, as I'm sure it will be to ohers. Maybe the complainers are the reserachers who wish to put in their relatives name and have everything pop out nice and neat, in perfect order, already bound and ready for publication. As nice as that would be sometimes, it sure isn't realistic. So ... for those of us who care about you and your work, just keep plugging, and remember how many times a day someone, somewhere, is going "YES! There he/she is!!" all through your interest and efforts. Susie Koehrsen

I think you have the best county site on the web. I use it frequently and have found much information about my family on your site. Pat yourself on the back, you deserve it. The only complaint I have is about Rootsweb. When the mail from WV comes, it doesn't have a preface on the subject like the PA sites have. When I get mail from Allegheny County, I know it is safe. If I don't recognize the WV letters from the subject, I delete them. I am probably deleting things I want to read, but don't take the virus chance. Thanks for your hard work. Rosanne
Linda, Don't let a few narrow minded people get you down. I, for one, use you pages frequently, I have even helped you transcribe some obits. I appreciate everything you do. Your pages are way above and beyond the call. I live in Seattle, and have no one locally who can do my "leg work" for me. I think you have given genealogy one of the biggest boosts, by providing as much as you do. Kudos to you, and others like you. Thank You so much, Blessings, Joyce Lucas Dever skipdever@earthlink.net

Her husband, John Shimp, had died and she had not yet given birth to their youngest child, John. She must have moved to Moundsville before that event. I know that in the 1850 census for Monroe County, Ohio John is listed as 20 years old and in his family are Rachel, 55, Susanna, 36, and Barbary, 22. His home joined William D. Shimp, and Jonas D. Shimp, his brothers. Also joining them was his sister Hanna Shimp who married Albin Rigg, they had Rachel Rigg, 5, Isaac Rigg, 4, John Rigg, 3 and Jonas Rigg, 2/12. The other brother, Isaac Shimp lived in Highland township, Belmont Co., Ohio in 1850. In the 1860-70s they had crossed the Ohio and lived in Marshall Co. WVa. In 1870, William D. moved to Lucas Co. Iowa and in 1881 James Edward Shimp, my grandfather, son of Jonas D. Shimp and Sarah B. Catlett, had moved to Lucas Co. Iowa also. My father was born there in 1886. He doesn't show on the 1885 state census, and since the 1890 census was destroyed, the first time we see him by name, Lloyd Clell Shimp,is the 1900 Green Co, Mo. census. I would like to exchange information with you. Virginia Shimp Rigby

I saw in a book on the Historical Records Survey done by the WPA that in Marshall County there are Marriage records from 1835-1899 in "Box 74". I assume the box is in the basement or attic of Courthouse or maybe in a warehouse where things are stored. Can anyone tell me if these records have been recorded and published? Has any one ever seen "Box 74" or even know about it? Could it be investigated and reported to this web site? Thanks, Ginny Toney in Houston, TX

He died after 1900 (on census, Jackson Co., OH) but before 1906 (Jane/Jennie is living with daughter and son-in-law in Dayton, OH).
