I am looking for the parents of John and Mahala Crawford. The earliest I can find them is in the 1860 census for Union Dist in Marshall Co. Does anyone know where they are buried or any info at all? Please let me know. Thanks, Donna Hollibaugh
Loved the article on Linda and her various websites in the Wheeling Sunday paper. Didn't do her justice though, as we all know she does twice as much as they had listed. It was a nice plug however for those of us who do research on this area, and maybe more people will "check it out". More people means more information available, so that's a good thing. Hi Linda, Got your message, but still at work so cannot access the genealogy files. Sylvia and some others were looking into William Criswell's a few weeks ago. I cannot remember off the top of my head if we ever got this one matched up with parents. I do not remember the name Jennie Duncan coming up so that is new info to us. We were primarily looking in the Marshall Co & Ohio area. Will have a look when I get home to see if I can find anything on this William. Looking forward to seeing your info on the pension file. Sam
Hi Linda, If the W.H.H. age 30, preacher, in the 1880 census is the Wm H. you are interested in, there is also an 11 year old Nannie living with he and his parents, John Criswell & Margaret Burrows . I've never been able to find out who this child belongs to, so I've assumed she might be W.H.'s daughter., but she isn't mentioned in his will. Here is some Wm H. data sent to me by Naomi Parks Lowe Hupp. 1. John Criswell and Margaret Burrows were married 19 Aug. 1832 at West Alexander, Pa. by Squire Issac Mayes. The last deed recorded for this John and Margaret was 30 Oct. 1886. They lived then in Wayne County, Ohio. 2. There are at least two "William Criswells". William H.H. Criswell m. Mary Margaret Rulong 8 Aug. 1881. (Marshall Co. book C Page 32). He was 32, she was 20. There are two recorded wills in Marshall County for William H. H. The first was written in 1884. In it he desired that his mother, Margaret, and father John be cared for. His cousin, Hanson Criswell, an attorney, represented William H. H. Then a second will was written 18 June 1885 in Lancaster County, Pa. In this he names his wife, Mary Margaret [Rulong]. Here is a brief outline fo John and Margaret and William H.H. Census 1880--all together in Marshall Co. Will 1884--written by Wm. H.H--names parents. 11 June 1885--2nd. will names wife. They lived in Pa. 31 Dec. 1885--first will probated in M.C. 23 Jan 1886--2nd will probated in M. C. (It does NOT show of any settlement of either will in Marshall.) 30 Oct 1886--acreage sold by John and Margaret Criswell. They lived in Ohio. Sylvia
Dean, I too have a gg uncle with an unclaimed civil war medal in WV. I would love to be able to claim it. What kind of records did you have to provide? I really don't know much about him except that he was killed at the wilderness and he served with the 7th wv infantry. His brother was my gg grandfather and my ggrandfather was named after him. I know he was raised in Greene Co. PA and enlisted at Cameron WV. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And congratulations on getting the medal! Barb
With the wonderful and extensive help of Linda Fluharty, I received my gr-gr-uncle's long-awaited West Virginia Civil War Medal yesterday! He served in Co. B, 12th West Virginia Infantry, then in Co. C, 10th West Virginia Infantry. The medal is listed under the 10th WV, since that was the last unit he served in. It is in such pristine condition, and the original box is even in great condition. I'm planning on placing the medal and the box in an archival shadowbox, so that it can be displayed in a place of honor, yet be preserved. Just wish I could find a photo of him to put with the display. He lived in Pleasants, Marshall and Calhoun Counties at one time or another, and is buried in Clay Point Cemetery, Pleasants County. His brother, Erastus, was my great-grandfather. Linda has put an image of the medal on her 12th West Virginia pages (which already has Ira's pension record and an image of his gravestone). It can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmarsha/12-kidder.htm Thanks for everything, Linda - what would we all do without her? Dave Rader Kent, OH
I am looking for information on the family of James M. BAIRD and wife Elizabeth (SIVERT). I see a James BAIRD born about 1767 in Ireland aged 83 in the 1850 census-dies in 1853. I also see no Elizabeth with him there. The Elizabeth in question was born about 1798 and I don't know if she married this James M. BAIRD who is quite old for her or perhaps a son of his named James BAIRD. . The marriage record is in Marshall County. There was a John M. BAIRD who is in the 1850 census and 1860 census with a wife Elizabeth. This Elizabeth is Elizabeth DOUGHERTY born about 1802-3. My Elizabeth who married James is Elizabeth SIVERT born about 1798. Any help is greatly appreciated. Pam
Would the Ronald Howard who wrote to Russ Howard in Cameron, WV about his family information, please contact me at < Mmh39@aol.com > ? I have a book that was written on your Samuel Martin Howard family. Marguerite Howard

In your message you stated that you believed Elias to be buried in the Magers fam. cem. in Fairview Ridge. If you check for the majority of the Magers buried in Marshall Co..and compare the two different Fairview cemeteries you will notice that most are buried in Fairview 2 instead of 1( which is Fairview Ridge. ) I found the location of Fairview 2 as being down St Rt 2 along the river south of Moundsville turning left onto Fish Creek road...not sure how far out but Fairview 2 is near Burch Road and Proctor Ridge which runs off of Fish Creek.

This is the cemetery located on Rt. 250 about 4 or 5 miles out...maybe not even that far.

Several Magers listed on both the cemetery listing, census, etc. Elias is mentioned many times. Happy Hunting...Leanne
