    1. MARTIN, THOMPSON
    2. Marilee Tolman
    3. This list seems to be very active now, so will try again for the surnames of MARTIN , and THOMPSON. The information that I have is that Benjamin Martin, b. abt. 1816 in PA. married Mary Thompson, b. abt. 1818 in PA. They were married in Marshall Co. in 1837. There children were: Caroline b. 1838 James b. 1840 John b. 1842 Oliver P. b. 1844 Riley b. 1846 Martha S. b. 1849 All these children were born in Marshall Co. They are all listed on the 1850 census of Marshall Co. However they are not on the 1860,70 etc. Where did they move to? Who were Benjamin and Mary's parents. ANY help would be appreciated.

    2. I apologize--It took me so long to type that response that I forgot to cut and paste Tammy's original post--Here it is. >>>>>>>>>>>> I don't think that I am getting through, #1 Jesse was born <1774> has no wife listed and has four boys listed as follows: Richard T., Zephaniah, #2 Jesse born 1815 and John. #2 Jesse married Elizabeth ???. #3 Jess born <1845> (Richards) #4 Jesse B. born 1835. 1. BURCHs Galore Reply
    2. Dear Tammy and List: >>>>>>>>>>>>> Tammy Burch wrote >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> You are getting through to us quite well, and we understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, Tammy, you do not seem to be listening to what we are telling you, which is that YOUR "JESSE BURCH born about 1774 has no wife listed , ....." Really DOES have a WIFE----------ELIZABETH------------born in 1779 and died on March 2, 1852 and is buried in BURCH CEMETERY (Jesse is probably beside her but in an unmarked grave and therefore no record). We have definite proof of three children--Eliza (married Robert McHENRY), Richard T. (who married Isabellah McHENRY) and Zephaniah (who married Ruth McHENRY.) We are also telling you that we (neither Vern Anderson nor I) do NOT have a record of the two additional sons you have attributed to this "1774" Jesse--those being Jesse born in 1815 and John--what is your source for these two sons? So to say in another way in plain terms--your "1774" Jesse with no wife listed and the #2 Jesse (as you have listed) married Elizabeth ???--ARE THE SAME PERSON!! Your listing of #3 Jess (Jessy according to the marriage license) born in 1845 is correct and he is a son of Richard T. and Isabellah (McHENRY) Burch. Your listing of #4 Jesse B. born in 1835 is also correct and he is the son of Zephaniah and Ruth (McHENRY) BURCH. Then we are telling you that there is another Jesse that you do not have listed--that being Jesse BURCH, the son of Jesse B. and Maria Jane (WILLIAMS) BURCH. Now concerning the addition of Amanda and Robert to the children of Zephaniah, you appear to be correct. (All we needed was a source.) The 1860 Wood County, VA(WVA) Census Record (which I have a complete copy of) lists the following entry: Unit #1802-1798 Zephaniah BURCH, 52, born in Virginia, Farmer Ruth, his wife, 47, born in Virginia Jesse, 25, born in Virginia, Farm Laborer Charles, 15, born in Virginia, Farm Laborer Samuel, 11, born in Virginia Amanda E., 10, born in Virginia Robert, 7, born in Virginia Elizabeth LOUBLE, 30, born in Ohio, House Servant Joseph BURCH, 20, born in Virginia This Joseph BURCH is actually also a son of Zephaniah and Ruth but I do not know why he is listed as last unless he was forgotten and added as a last thought. I will add Amanda E. and Robert to the childred of Zephaniah and Ruth with the source being the 1860 Wood County VA(WVA) Census Record. Does this help you now Tammy? List, we are working hard to clear up this McHENRY/BURCH never ending problem. Happy Searching, Carlisle Bowling e-mail [email protected]

    1. Sand Hill Cemetary/Grindle
    2. Hi, everyone. This is my first message to the group, so please bear with me. I have been researching the Grindle family of Marshall Cty and was very excited to hear of the Grindle names listed in the Sand Hill Cem. postings. I had run into some brick walls with this family. Thank you, Mr. Whipkey, for filling in some blanks for me!! Here is my Grindle family connection and if anyone out there can help me, I'd really appreciate it. My g-g grandmother was Nancy Jane Grindle, d/o Abraham Grindle (b. 1836, d. ?) and Isabell Hally. Abraham was the s/o John Grindle and Nancy ?. John and Nancy had the following children: Isaac, John, Elizabeth, Henry, Abraham and Mary Henry. Nancy Jane Grindle married Jefferson Davis Kerfoot of Uniontown, PA. I know some of the Grindle line moved back into the PA area but Levi and Henry stayed on in Marshall Cty, for a while anyway. According to the Marshall Cty Cemetary lists, there is a H.H. Grindle buried in Big Run Cemetary. I tried calling information for a phone number for them, but there is no Big Run Cemetery listing. Does anyone know how to contact this cemetery? Sorry this is so long. Thanks again for any help. colleen goetz

    3. I found a Bardon GORBEY on the 1860 Marshall County census. He is married to a woman named Jane, and they have a son named Eli. Eli is a name popular in the Gorby's, so I am sure he connects in. I have never seen the name Bardon before though. Does anyone have a family line that has Bardon in it? as either a first name or a last name? I am hoping to tie this man into the rest of the clan. Dawn. 1. PARRIOTT Family Posting
    2. Dear Guy (and list) What a GREAT POST, Guy. Thank You! I have a question for you (being heavily "engulfed" in the McHENRY debacle of trying to find out who really belonged to whom). Your # 7--LAWSON SIMEON PARRIOTT, which you quote as being born on 10 Jan 1827 in Moundsville and died 27 Feb 1883 and that he Married Mary McHENRY on "28 MAY 1847" and that Mary died on 5 Aug 1883. My questions: 1. The Marriage date of May 28, 1847 must be in error. On Page 25 of Marshall County WV Marriages 1835-1889 (Wes Cochran Compiler), this marriage is given: Simeon PARRIOTT, age 27 married MARCH 16, 1856 Mary J. McHENRY, age 20 2. I note that the oldest child listed of this couple is Mary Lydia (1858-1938) wich would surely more closely validate the marriage date of 1856 rather than 1847. 3. Is his name "Lawson Simeon PARRIOTT" or is it "Simeon Lawson PARRIOTT?" I note that my only records of him show just "Simeon PARRIOTT" on the marriage record, and "Simeon L. PARRIOTT" from two other researchers. I also note that his fifth child "Lawson Simeon" is not listed as JUNIOR, nor he as Senior. That makes me wonder if daddy was Simeon Lawson and son was Lawson Simeon. Also, I most heartily concur with Vern Anderson that Mary J. McHENRY is indeed the daughter of John McHENRY and Mary (DYE) McHENRY. (If you are interested, John McHENRY was born June 21, 1803 in Virginia(WVA) and died in Marshall County December 1849. Mary (DYE) McHENRY {daughter of Mary (?) DYE) was born September 1812 and died April 1861. Their Children were: 1.. John McHENRY, born 1832, died Oct. 1870 2.. Anna B. McHENRY, born 1834, died 1912 married Philip CAMPBELL on Nov 1, 1853 (Marshall County) who was born 1832 and died in 1881. (He was the son of Edward and Mary (?) CAMPBELL. 3.. Mary J. McHENRY (discussed above) 4.. James McHENRY b. about 1837 (this is not James N. McHENRY as previously thought) 5.. Amanda McHENRY born about 1838 6.. William H. McHENRY born 1840 7.. Abigail J. McHENRY born 1843 8.. Esther P. McHENRY born 1844 died 1915 married Peter ORUM on May 3, 1866 (Marshall County). Peter was born March 25, 1845 and died October 5, 1884. 9.. Margaret E. McHENRY born December 12, 1845 married Davis H. RIGGLE on February 4, 1868 (Marshall County)--Davis was the son of Amos and Sarah A. (SHARP) RIGGLE and he was born about 1846 10. Winfield Scott McHENRY,born about 1848 and died before December 18, 1884. He was a bachelor and never married. Thanks again for the nice post. That is what this list is all about. 3. Hi Everyone, I've been watching the discussion about the McHenrys buried in Burch Cemetery. I have a suggestion for all of you who have folks buried in Marshall Co cemeteries. I suggest you make your corrections not only to Linda but to the list so that we all can benefit. I've gone through every cemetery list that has been posted on the Marshall Co site and pulled any individuals who had surnames I was interested in. I then added any information I know about that indidvidaul in ( )'s. I've not found any mistakes, but I know some people have. I haven't re-sbmitted anything to Linda as I'm not sure how much additional work this would make for her to add additions; also I'm not finished. Corrections I know she wants as soon as possible. It might be that I'm the only person on this list researching DeGarmos, but then someone else might be, I certainly don't know, but if so, this information might benefit them too. Also by listing the maiden names, that I know, a Mellon, Pettit, or Mickey researcher might find out what happened to that female who disappeared from any records. Here is an example of all DeGarmos found so far in various cemeteries. First list as I found them. Second list with additions. 1. Big Woods
    2. Christina & Nick
    3. The Big Woods is this part of a national forest, I think, where my family and I used to go and gather walnuts every fall. My dad said that it is near Wileyville. Does anyone know of this wooded area? I have not been able to find out much about. My dad can get there still, but he can't tell me what the official name for it is.
