2. Garry Foster
3. I am looking for any information on the James and Eleanor Foster family of Beeler's Station, Webster District, Marshall County, WV. James was born abt 1784 in Ireland and moved to Beeler's Station sometime before 1826. He farmed in the Beeler's Station area until his death in 1870. According to the Marshall County Genealogy Page on Beeler's Station - a James Foster and John Wilson established the first Beeler's Station Church (from the History of Marshall County 1984). This may well be the same James I'm researching. Is the church still there and operating? Any information on James, his wife, or Adaline Foster (James' daughter?/granddaughter?) would be of great help. Many thanks, Garry Foster [email protected]

I cannot speak to this book specifically, but for this and similar regimental histories folks might want to check with the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus (even though this is WV) for such histories. They have several, many of them of other states' regiments. I suspect WV archives at Morgantown include copies also. jim + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + - James Wiley, AKA [email protected]

1. James Foster of Beeler's Station
2. Garry Foster
3. I am interested in any information about the James and Elaenor Foster family of Beeler's Station, Webster District, Marshall County, WV. James was born in Ireland abt 1784 and moved to Beeler's Station sometime before 1826, he died in Beeler's Station in 1870. I have gathered most of the information about the family that is on the Marshall County Genealogy Web site. In the information about Beeler's Station (on the Web site) it says that a James Foster and John Wilson established the first Beeler's Station Church in 1826 (from History of Marshall County 1984). Is this church still active, if so their archives may contain some information on Foster and Wilson. (I'm not sure if this is the same James Foster I'm looking for, but it may be). I can not find where James was buried. I've gone through all the cemetery listings on the Web site and can't find James, his wife Elaenor, several of his family members; nor Adeline (Foster) Fuller his daughter. James was a farmer in Beeler's Station for over 50yrs. After his death his wife remained living there until her death. I find it hard to imagine that they would have buried James very far from home. I live in Florida, so it's a little tough to take off an afternoon and run up to Marshall County, WV to look things up. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you can give me. 1. Jacob QUIGLEY
2. I found this on a tombstone in Big Run Cemetary in WVA. Jacob Quigley Corp. Co. H 17th W.VA. Inf. (no death date) The list says his wife Nancy is buried beside him. According to all my records......Jacob is the SON of Nancy and William (who is also buried nearby) Since I live 4+ hours away from Big Run, can someone check this out for me if they go to Big Run Cemetary? I'm not sure if it is an error on my part, a stone error, or a transcription error. Thanks in advance if anyone can do this. Someone may also have a text of those buried there that may help. I got this info from the cemetary listings by Mrs. Briggs on the Marshall Co. pages. ALSO..... Does anyone know when Jacob Quigley died? He was born 1843 and lived in Marshall Co. according to the census I have seen. Married to Eliza Jane Hart. He was on the 1880 census - I don't have access to later ones. Where else should I look? ALSO..... Does anyone know anything about the 17th WVA Infantry??? Jacob was in Co. H. There may be some info in the book by Theodore F. Lang - Loyal West Virginia from 1861 to 1865. ( pages 302-03 ) Has anyone heard of this book and does anyone have access to it? I know I'm asking a lot, but this is important to me to know about my GG- Grandfather. Thanks in advance for ANY help on this. Email me or post to the list. Sandy Martin

1. Joliffe Cemetery
2. Roberta L. Modranski
3. Just one more note on Joliffe. If you haven't been there, I encourage you to go. It's on top (and I mean on top) of a hill near Silver Hill, is well marked, well cared for and absolutely beautiful. You can see for miles up there. My anscestors Micheal and Martha Burley Pyles are buried there as well as many of their descendants (my grandparents, aunts, uncles cousins). Michael and Martha are right on the crest of the hill. I'd love to hear from those of you who have an ancestor there. I only recall one stone that I saw that didn't have a name that was somehow related to Michael and Martha so I'd love to find out where you fit in my family tree. Also, does anyone know if Joliffe Cemetery was once part of the Michael Pyles estate? He owned several hundred acres in the 1800's. 1. Links to Greene Co. PA? 1876 Maps are now online
2. Hi folks, Since my Adams family wandered back and forth across the border between Marshall County and Greene County I thought some of you with families that did the same might be interested in viewing the Township Maps from the 1876 Caldwell's Illustrated Historical Centennial Atlas of Greene County. These maps can be accessed through a link from my Archibald and Catherine Adams of Greene County page. Descendants of Archibald and Catherine Adams http://members.aol.com/rslater463/AdamsIndex.html There is also a link to "One Man's Journey Home" - the home page of Clair John "Bill" Thompson, Sr. who has uploaded the 1876 maps for Washington County PA. Hope these maps are of interest to some of you. I apologize to those of you who have already received a similar announcement from other lists. Jan Slater Vashon Island, WA

3. Thanks, all, for your Silver Hill help. I will visit the Wetzel Co page today. I went there frequently about a year ago, but haven't been back. I need to quit assuming that these pages are static! I had visited Marshall Co genweb pages about a year ago also. I enjoyed reading about the Mound (which of course I remember visiting from age 4 on--including an ice cream parlor close by). Then just recently, something took me back to the Marshall Co pages--what a change!! And I am enjoying this list immensely. 3. Thanks for the replies to my New Martinsville request. Those out-of-the- way libraries are so often useful. For example, our local library has the only copy of several titles outside the state library holdings. In Pittsburgh, I have been able to use hard copies rather than microfilms for city directories at the North Side branch. At the main library in Oakland, one has to hover like a Harpie for a reader if the day is busy. Peg [email protected]

2. T. Vernon Anderson
3. Phyllis & List: Ethel Briggs & Ada Finnicum's book, "Wetzel County Cemeterys" does include Jolliffe Cemetery at Silver Hill. I agree with what Lisa Hassig Neff has said about Silver Hill. I might add that you should pack a lunch and have a map of the area to get to Silver Hill. You should also not be afraid to stop and ask for directions. The cemetery is on a hard surface road but there are many forks in the road between New Martinsville and Silver Hill. The New Martinsville Library is the best in this area as far as doing genealogy research. There is another Jolliffe Cemetery in Wetzel County, but I do not recall exactly where it is located. Can anyone else help. Have you visited Wetzel County's web page?? The Wetzel County History, 1983 is full of family histories. It has been a great help to me. Vernon Anderson

3. Phyllis, Silver Hill is located about 18 miles east of New Martinsville. THere are no businesses to my knowledge, certainly no motels. (Closest would be in New Mart.) There is a volunteer Silver Hill Fire Dept. My brother in law is active in it. There is a small story in the Wetzel Co. History Book about Silver Hill. I could try to scan it and send it to you privately if you want me to. If you come to this area, please visit our local library. Our genealogy section is quite good. People come from far away to visit. I believe there is a book written by Ethel Briggs that probably has the reading from the tombstones in it. I'm just not sure of that. Lisa Hassig Neff

1. Blackburn Barret Dovener
2. Dave Powell
3. Blackburn Barret Dovener....Does anyone recognize this name? You should, he was a representative to Congress for West Virginia around 1900. (I know I have all of them memorized, hahah) But here's my question(s). Lydia Dovener married Jonathan Evans, one of my ancestors. They had a son named.. you guessed it.. Blackburn Barret Evans.. born around the same time as Blackburn Barret Dovener was born. Or at least plus or minus a decade. I don't believe in double coincidences... so, can anyone help me with any of this? Lydia married Jonathan in Illinois, then moved back to Ohio. Balckburn Barret Dovenor was listed as born in WV. Is there another famous Blackburn Barret that I should have heard of? Were millions of Americans naming their kids Blackburn Barret in the 1840's. These and other questions remain unanswered, hahah.
