People, methinks Linda is overworked. Why else would she question the format of such a useful site? *Anybody* who has tried to compile readings done by another person knows how burdensome the project can be if you have no visual of the place. Linda, just eat extra goodies tomorrow for all of us! Peg [email protected]
Hi all, I mentioned that I pulled the surnames I was interested out of the cemetery lists because, in the long run, it made my life easier. As I mentioned I hadn't realized corrections and additions were being sent to Linda. Linda feels badly that she didn't save these a as separate file, but she had no idea that I was doing what I am doing, and like all of us she did it the easiest way for keeping the information up to date. > If I weren't so stupid I would know how to do many more things that would make >life simpler for those visiting the Marshall Page. I just sort of stumble >along..... Please forgive my ineptness. I'll try to do better. Linda you aren't stupid or inept, you can't anticipate all the ways people will use the materials on the Marshall Co site. You are doing a superb job of providing all of us a forum to discuss and lots and lots of information on Marshall County. We all learn after the fact, very rarely before. Please do not put yourself down or think that because you didn't have a neat file saved your have failed, me or the rest of the group, I could have asked about this when the 1st cemetery list appeared, but like you I didn't think of it either. I hope no one, especially Linda, thinks I was critizing her, I was just kicking myself for not think about requesting the additons/corrections sooner. But as I mentioned yesterday I would appreciate any additions or corrections from others. I've aready had several requests for lookups in the surnames I've pulled out, so I guess I will have to post a list of those names. I'll do this after Thanks giving Sylvia

Hi All: I think Sylvia's idea is marvelous. The thought had crossed my mind to try and put all the Cemetery listings in one file, by appending them all together, and be able to pull it into a word processor and then let the computer do the work searching for a given surname. But putting them in a database takes this to another level. One cannot imagine how handy this is until you experience how easy it is to find what you want after sorting the database in whatever way suits you at the time. I have put the first 35 years of Marshall County marriages in a database and it has been very helpful to me. I have on my list of things to do, the job of getting this database ready to share with the web page. I would also like to add the years 1870 to 1900 to this database, but I do not have a hard copy of this info yet. One of the reasons this marriage database is so handy is because it has book #, page#, groom & bride's names, place of birth, age, parents names, when that info is listed in the original records. One can sort this database on any of these fields and find what you need. Vernon Anderson

Sylvia, Great idea! Here are a few bits from my files: Bruhn Cem, under Chambers; Ella should be Eli A. Chambers (1826 - 1895) next line Jenneta is Eli's wife Jenneta "Jane" White (1830 - 1899) Eli was the son of Edward "Ned" Chambers Highland Cem; add Nicholas Taylor Bice (4 Aug. 1867 - 28 June 1957) Nicholas was born in Wind Ridge, the son of Robert Bice and Simone Grimm. He died in Moundsville Big Run Cem. add Jacob Leroy Hixenbaugh Bristor Anderson (10 Sep. 1849 - 2 May 1933) Jacob was born in Greene Co., Pa, the son of Robert Anderson and Elizabeth Finch and died in Belmont Co., Ohio. He lived most of his life in Green Valley and was returned to his home church for burial. My Marshall Co ancestors are Howards, Chambers, Andersons, Whitlatch, Welling. I have family bibles, obits and pictures from these families. Fred Bice
Hi All, I have started my own Marshall Co cemetery project, I don't know if I'm stubborn, lazy or just slow in the mind, but I dislike doing thru 30, 40, 50 cemeteries looking for a certain family, so I have copied all burials of 153 surnames from the sites, that many of you have submitted to Linda, and she has posted on the Marshall Co site. These surnames are surnames of people who have married into any of the lines I am researching. This way if I have a spouse I can quickly check to see if the parents of said spouse are buried someplace in Marshall Co and I can then get their birth and death dates if they were recorded. At present I've pulled 3891 burials which I keep in a separate data base. I have thought about doing all the surnames, but doubt that I will ever have that much energy or time. I hadn't realized that people were sending Linda additions and corrections to the cemetery readings untill all the discussion about the McHenrys, then I emailed Linda to ask if she had a file of the corrections & additions, she didn't, she has just added them to the lists, or made corrections. Basically what I need is any additions or corrects that have been sent to Linda, if you would be willing to share them with me. As I mentioned I don't know how much I will be able to expand the alphabetic list of burials, (I don't even know if anyone else is interested in the burials in this form) but I hope to do so and would like the information to be correct and with any addions that any of you might have. Thanks so much, Sylvia

Well, has McMechen been re-read? I live here and it will be easy for me to get to. I can do an hour or so a day. Obviously many of us cannot assist in the cemetery reading project because of our distant residences. BUT while someone in the Panhandle area is reading for us, we can volunteer to read where we reside... even if we are the only ones of the clan to have ever set foot in the area. I am looking for information on family from Marshall County, Wva. Some of the surnames are Conner, Blake, Burge, Neely and Nice.
What a super pleasant addition to the pages. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful treasure! Carlisle Bowling
Perhaps a Thanksgiving success story for all. Through Vernon Anderson's posting of the Civil War records for Isaac Dowler, I became sufficiently curious to contact Anderson himself. Yes! There*is* a common thread. Thanks to the marvelous Marshall County material online, I have confirmed my research and saved a lot of duplication of effort. In addition, I can contribute to research on the surname by now focusing on several specifics. Peg [email protected]
Hi everyone! I just attended Ruthann Burton's virtual genealogy society meeting, and I loved it. I really enjoyed the format and presentation. It is one of the best biographies I have read!!!! Ver creative. It also reminded me to ask all of you what you know about Loudenville. My great-grandmother, Ella Wycoff Sampson, lived in Loudenville in a little house for years. Her house was moved during a big flood, but she stayed there anyway until her last few years when she moved to Moundsville. I know where Loudenville is (I tell everyone that it is a suburb of Cameron, hehehehe) and I have been there many times, but does anyone know any information about its history? I have a theory that it may have been founded by the Loudenslager family many, many years ago, but I have not been able to confirm it. I lived in Loudenville with my great-grandmather for the first few months of my life, so I would like to know more about it. Thanks in advance, Christina Parsons

Thomas Jeahue Gorby was b 1779 Chester PA died 1856. Catherine Garretson Parsons was b abt 1780. She was the daughter of Vincent Berry Parsons [1753-1828] and Miriam Frazier Garretson [1755-1810]. Good hunting.
Who out there is working on Parsons? I am showing Catherine Parsons married Thomas Gorby, but I have no marriage date on her, I have no death date on her, and I have no children for them. Thomas also married Elizabeth West, again I have no dates on her. Is anyone researching the West family? I only show them as having John, but I am pretty sure that Morgan and Andrew are theirs also, just can't prove it. Dawn.
