    3. Hi Linda - I checked the Marshall County Web site and looked at Will indexes and didn't find my Tylee Clayton listed - is this listing of Wills complete for the County? I'm just wondering if there is anywhere else I should check? Thank you so much - the Web page is great! 2. Hi folks I have been reading the discussion about combining lists into a single alphabetical database, such as the cemetery lists. I have a suggestion for those of you who handle large amounts of data: look at PageKeeper software by Caere Corp. It is $39. It is the best software I have found for handling all internet data, scanned data or data from any source. It allows you to search any document for any word in it. This means, you can serch the lists, even obits for any name contained in them. I have used it to scan very old newspaper obits and then store and search them for any name contained therein. It will search e-mail and essentially all internet data for a name. You can review it at the Caere Corp web site. Fred Bice

    2. Hi I'm a newbie to this newsletter, and not sure how to post a reply to a particular message since I get them all grouped together. This one is for Sylvia Sligar in regards to the cemetary project. I have just stumbled onto the Marshall co website here and find it very helpful. There is SOOO MUCH here. Linda this is a fantastic site. Regarding the cemetaries, it was difficult going thru so many cemetaries and having no clue where my ancestors are buried, very time consuming...actually havent made it thru all of them yet... so I would DEFINITELY appreciate an alphabetical listing. Sylvia, I found some lists you had of births and marriages on some website, cant remember where now.....but I saw that one of the lines you had was the CRISWELL line. I have a bunch of Criswells in the Marshall Co area. Do you have any info on John b. 1807 m. Lydia Orum father is Richard b c 1765 d 1839. Thanks very much, Sam Criswell

    2. Guy Littman
    3. In response to Carlilse Bowling's post of November 1: Sorry to take so long getting back to you. Life has a way of getting in the way. I went back to my sources to see what they said about Lawson Simeon Parriott and Mary McHenry. The date I had used was indeed an error. My original source, a transcription from a family Bible published in Parrott Talk in 1977, gave an 1837 date, I took that to be 1847 since the couple would have been too young in 1837. I completely missed a later source, Helen Parrott Foreman, who gave the date from the Marshall county records. I have corrected my database. I had also missed that this couple both died in Peru, Nebraska (Nemaha County.) All of my sources refer to this man as Lawson Simeon- the family Bible, Susannah Wilson Sachs, and Helen Parrott Foreman. There was a Simeon Lawson in another branch of the family, a son of William Parriott and Susan Turner who married Sarah Price. This Simeon Lawson went by Lawson, so it might follow that the 2 Lawson Simeons might go by different names, one Lawson and the other Simeon. I hope this clarifies my post and the Parriott side of McHenry discussion. Guy Littman

    3. Hello all, I helped my mother go through my father's study today. He was born in Marshall Co, WV, in 1930 and just died this August. He is Carl Isaac MILLER, son of Amanda Jane Stone MORGAN and Lawrence MILLER (both of Wetzel Co, WV). I have a Moundsville High School 50 year reunion picture of the 1947 class. Is anyone out there in that picture?? Mom also found the proverbial cigar box filled with old pictures of Marshall Co & Wetzel Co people. If anyone out there is related to Amanda Jane Stone MORGAN or her sisters Celesta and Ethel, please get in touch with me. I have many pictures of these girls and their mother, Marietta STOLLER Morgan Games. Most pictures are not labelled, so I am hoping someone will know these people well enough to identify some of the people. Phyllis Miller Fleming [email protected]

    2. Elizabeth D. Swiger
    3. Hello, This is the first letter I have sent to THE LIST. In response to the message below, I would like to affirm that I am interested in Askew, but know nothing about Mary Ann, David or Mary. My people started coming from Baltimore Co. MD about 1803. Keziah Askew, and spouse, Isaac Davis, are the principal subjects of a genealogy book I am writing. They came to what is now Marshall County in 1803 after their marriage. Keziah's parents were Joshua and Elizabeth (Williamson) Askew, and her siblings included Jane, who married Rezin S. Davis, Mary, Thomas, Elizabeth who married Thomas Stewart, William, whose son William married Susan Feay. The parents and all but Mary and Thomas were known to be in Marshall County after Isaac and Keziah arrived. I would appreciate anything anyone can tell me about this family, and will be glad to share. I have found Askew names in Belmont Co. OH but cannot connect them. It is not a common name so I assume they are related. Elizabeth >Message: > >I was told that Moundsville was once in Ohio Co. W.V. but is now Marshall?? >Richard Parrott Bn 1811 in Ohio Co. If you live in Davies County, you aren't far from where the Burches that we have found as ancestors lived...Surry, Rowan, etc. Does any of these children look like names and dates that match the VA Burches? I've printed the names you listed and will double-check but so far I can't see any connection. Thanks for taking time to help. 3. Hi! I'm new to this list and am searching for any information or anyone who might be related to Tylee/Tyler Clayton. Tylee was born about 1819 or 1820, in VA according to the 1850-1870 Census records. He was a Farmer, and married a lady named Mary. He is found in Clay Twp in 1870. Children were: John Wesley, Jacob, William, Elizabeth, Sarah, Margaret, Rebecca, Isaac M and George F. I haven't yet located him on the 1880 Census, but am hoping to (if he was still living). I believe this Tylee was related (possibly a son?) to my 3rd great grandparents, Tylee Clayton, born 1789, married Sarah Krewson in Philadelphia, PA, but haven't proved it yet. 1. Cemetery Surnames
    2. Sylvia Sligar
    3. Hi All, Linda has asked those of you who live near Marshall Co to pick a cemetery and try re-reading it. I live in California, so I read the info on the net . Ann Varley asked me how I got the names off the sites, which gives me an idea that I am going to throw out to all of you. I am interested in the surnames listed below, some of you may be interested in these same surnames, the rest of you are probably interested in other names. If you want to take your surnames and place them in a database. We can present them to Linda to be combined into one giant database of all surnames in alphabetical order. Now as to the method I used to get the data into my data base: 1. Used the "Save AS" in the file menu of my browser to save each cemetery to my hard drive. 2. Made these field names in a data base: Lname Gname Birthdate Death Date Death Age County Cemetery Inscription New Submit (this I just added as it would be a good idea to have a person to contact, who had submitted new information, for anyone who might want to contact them personally) 3. Each cemetery saved was in a plain text document. I imported this document into my word processor program. 4. I copied just the surnames, I was interested in, from the cemetery and made a new document with them. 5. I used my"Find/Replace" function in the word processor to remove ","s between Surname and Given name and replace with 5 spaces. 6. I used my"Find/Replace" function in the word processor to remove "."s between words with one space. Since there were ..... between words, it turned out to be about 5 spaces between words. 6. Then I "Copied" the data from the word processing document, opened the database and "Pasted" the data into it. (This is like having tab delimited data). 7. Usually the information was in the correct column, if it wasn't, it was a simple matter to copy from one column and paste into another column. Now, if you think I'm using a very advanced wordprocessor and database program, I'm using Works 3.0 published in 1992 and has been done away with and replaced by Office 98 after several other upgrades. Here are the names I have pulled from the Marshall Co Cemeteries listed on the Marshall Co Genweb site. I really don't want to do look-ups with this information, I had hoped to get Linda to post it when I had found all I was interested in. Then everyone can look for themselves. 2. T. Vernon Anderson
    3. Hi to all: Linda and I have discussed this project via e-mail. At the present time there does not appear to be a viable way to make this happen on the web page. What can be done is sort the file by groom and then put that up on the page in html format. Then we can sort the records by Bride and put that up on the page. This would also help out, to a certain degree, with the spelling variations of the names. This is a workable solution. This is the way Linda and I decided it could be done. Another solution would be for anyone who can handle zip files and databases to request a copy of the file from me. The original database file is 480 Kbytes. When it is zipped it is only 68 Kbytes. The file will grow to about 1 Megabyte when I have entered the info from 1870 to 1900. It will probably zip to about 130 Kbytes. I am not sure what my file size limit is on attached files. I am willing to experiment and work with anyone who wants to break some new ground. I did not mean to suggest or insinuate that Linda wasn't doing an excellent job with the web page. I am always looking for a way to make things better or easier for everyone, including Linda. Happy Thanksgiving, Vernon Anderson
