To Whom It May Concern: I have a copy of Marriage Records of Squire Isaac and Joseph F. Mayes: On page 165 it has: MOZINGO, ROBERT to Annie E. Sims both of Ohio Co., WV 27 Mar 1879. It is also same date on page 210 - under SIMS, ANNIE E. Of course this could be an error in the year. Clarice (Eller) Stanley
To all, This is George Wykert. Due to a computer problem, I had to dump my system. I was not able to back up my genealogy files from my last updates. Please send me any info on the Wykert family. Any requests for info are still welcome as I still have my trusty notebooks, It just may take me a day or two to find it. Thanks to Hotmail, I have some copies of past messages and will be rebuilding my database ASAP. Any help will be greatly appreciated. PS. I will be submitting a cemetary listing from Kansas soon. It is where some of the travelers from Marshall Co. are buried. They came here in 1856. Due to a fire many years ago, it may be incomplete, but I hope it will help a few who have relation that just disappeared from the tree. Thanks George F Wykert ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Cheryl, PAF, the genealogy program from the LDS has an age converter, at least the Mac version does, so I assume the PC version also has this converter. Sylvia

Hi all, I received an interesting article on Levi Morgan from Pat Sheegog-Vinson of Austin, Texas yesterday and posted it today on the Wetzel County Genealogy Homepage. It may be viewed at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvwetzel/descendant/index.htm It brings an interesting question to mind, Why is Levi Morgan's Monument at Wetzel County Court House in New Martinsville, WV? One story I have heard is the river was too low to take it to Morgantown and it was brought to New Martinsville instead. Does anyone know why it is at New Martinsville? Bill Bill Cunningham
Cheryl, We've all struggled with the date of birth when given tombstone readings such as: DIED May 6, 1889, AGE 71 years, 7 months, 9 days. In March 1976, the Genealogical Helper included the "Formula 8870," and it was repeated in the July/August 1988 issue. Here's how it works: Enter on a calculator 18890506 (death on May 6, 1889); subtract 710709 (age); Result-- 18179797. Subtract 8870 to correct the months/days Answer: 18170927, or 1817 September 27. If the last two digits are greater than 30, subtract 30 from it, and the remainder is the days. Then you add that 30 days/1 month, to the next two digits, which is the number of the months. If there are more than 12 months, subtract the twelve months, and add them (as 1 year) to the years. Julie, IBSSG Flock Mistress

Hello - my name is Carol Stackhouse Polkinghorne. I am the descendant of Joshua W. Stackhouse born 1823 in Columbiana County Ohio. He married Mary McFarland and moved to Proctor West Virginia. I am trying to find out any information I can find on him but especially who his parents were. I believe that they were Joshua B. born 1799 in Columbiana County and Martha Sinclair also of Columbiana County but as of yet I can't make the firm connection. I would appreciate any information you might have!! My email address is [email protected] Thank you for your help!!
Hi to H Fagley I just last week copied this from a site with George Washingtons paper, and it is the letter written to Michael Cresap by Geo. Washington. Perhaps this is the land you were looking for. I have some relatives who were with Michael Cresap and that is why I copied it. This is the site where I found this info: http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?ammem/mgw:@field([email protected](gw280035)) Good luck, Delores Straight The George Washington Papers at the Library of Congress George Washington to Michael Cresap, Account Book 2, September 26, 1773 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Writings of George Washington from the Original Manuscript Sources, 1745-1799. John C. Fitzpatrick, Editor.--vol. 03 Mount Vernon, September 26, 1773. Sir: In my passage down the Ohio in the Fall of the year 1770, I made choice of a piece of Land, being the first bottom on the So. East side the river above Capteening, as also a little above a place where the effects of a hurricane appear among the Trees, and opposite to a Creek on the other side near the upper end of the bottom, call'd Pipe Creek. The next Spring, when Capt: Crawford went down the Ohio to survey, I desired sired him to run out this Land for me, which he accordingly did, and returned me the Plat of it, as you may see by the inclosed copy; intending as soon as a Patent could be obtained, to apply for one. The summer following, hearing that Doctor Brisco had taken possession of this bottom, (altho' inform'd of my claim to it) I wrote him a letter, of which the inclos'd is a copy. And within these few days I have heard (the truth of which I know not) that you, upon the Doctor's quitting of it, have also taken possession of it. If this information be true, I own I can conceive no reason why you or any other person should attempt to disturb me in my claim to this Land, as I have not, to my knowledge, injur'd or attempted to injure, any other man in his pretensions to Land in that country; it is a little hard, therefore upon me that I cannot be allowed to hold this bottom (which is but a small one) in peace and quietness, 'till a legal right can be obtained, which I always have been and still am ready to pay for, as soon as I know to what office to apply. I would feign hope that my information respecting your taking possession of this Land, is without foundation; as I should be sorry to enter into a litigation of this matter with you or any other Gentleman; but as I conceiv'd that I had as good a right to make choice of this bottom, as any other person has; as I am sure that I am the first that did so, and have had it survey'd so as to ascertain the bounds, upwards of two years ago, I am resolved not to relinquish my claim to it. But if you have made any Improvements thereon, not knowing of my claim, I will very readily pay you the full value thereof, being, etc. [Note 21: Pipe Creek, W. Va. It enters the Ohio River just below Moundsville, in Belmont County, and it is supposed to have derived its name from the pipe clay along its banks which the Indians used.]
I read at this site of George Washington's 1770 land survey winning in VA land court over Michael Cresap's 1774 [1773?] improvement, and the later Cresap's losing. Col WM Crawford,of Connellsville,Pa and ex-BERKLEY Co VA surveyor, and friend,GEORGE WASHINGTON,went down the Ohio as far as the BIG SANDY [KY-WV line] surveying in 1770.They were,in part, laying out military warrents given by VA for men serving under Washington in the 1754-58 FRENCH and Indian War period, plus, perhaps,Ohio Co lands. Col WM CRAWFORD led many to defeat in mid-1782,including my CAPT George Brown. Just read CRAWFORD's will abstract, where he willed son,LT JOHN CRAWFORD,"land down the Ohio River".Where was that land CRAWFORD willed?. I know where LT JOHN CRAWFORD forted,1789,at RICHARD GRAHAM's station,on the Ohio at Concord,Lewis Co,Ky, [ad then settled on the Ohio bank near Manchester.]But that is well below the BIG SANDY. 2 2ND,I read a long tree on the MINOR'S,to which there is much to learn,in the 1777-90 period,sw PA,and MISSISSIPPI. Does the author know of Col JAMES WILLING,and his gunboat"RATTLETRAP"
Hi Listers, Garry, there is a mailing list for THE SHIPS LIST which you could e-mail your question to: [email protected] Also, you might try a search for the Ship's name and see what happens. Good luck! Peg in WV
I just received a letter in the mail about Family Tree Maker being Y2K compliant now, so everyone should get a new copy. I thought that was strange to be getting that, since genealogy programs should be Y2K compliant in the fact that they are set for 4 digit years... or all our ancestors would be born the same year. After getting this, I wrote to Family Origins, asking if that was Y2K compliant. Since FTM now had me concerned about it. FO said that they are in fact Y2K complaint, always have been, and that yes, he even has the leap year in correctly. I don't know about the other programs on the market. If anyone has FO 7.0 though, you have no fear of the Y2K monster at your door. Dawn.

Hi All, I have a question some of you seasoned genealogists can probably answer for me. I consider myself a rank novice at this genealogy stuff, so I hope you will bear with me. I have the name of a ship and the date it arrived at the Port of Philadelphia. My g-g-g-g-grandfather arrived in the USA on that ship and later settled in Marshall Co., WV. I found his name by looking in the book "Passenger Arrivals at the Port of Philadelphia, 1800-1819". The book lists only his name, the name of the ship, and the date of arrival. How do I find out if the ship had a manifest with more information in it?? The ship was the Olive Branch that sailed from Ireland and arrived in Philadelphia in 1809. Thanks for the help, garry
