    1. History of Cameron FYI
    2. Crystal Allen
    3. I was talking recently with Carol Marling Anderson. She and a relative are working on a Howard history, soon to be out, which includes the Howards of the Cameron, WV area. Carol tells me that the first chapter of the "History of Cameron" is in error when it identifies Samuel and James Howard as among the first to arrive in the vicinity. Carol states that it should read "Samuel and John Howard" along with Brice Howard. According to Carol, John was a minister of Crooked Baptist Church. The Howard book will contain a good deal of Cameron history and photos. I can't wait to see it.

    3. Hello: I recently found one of my ancestors in 1795/1800 Hardy county. Of course the name was misspelled. Also I have seen a possible corruption of the name "Efau/Efaw/Efall" as Easau in the 1787 Hardy county census. Anyone have any tax/tithable/census/etc records later than 1787. Would like to connect the two names if possible. 1795 Hardy County deed David Efau(w) 1795 thru 1800 Land Tax for David Efall 1787 Hardy county census David Easau any help much/very much appreciated bob e

    3. Dear FLUHARTY cousins, Did any of your ancestors come to Shelby and/or Putnam Co IN? I transcribed an early will today that included the surname FLUEHEARTE. The will was that of Sydonia MONTGOMERY. Sidona is spelled at least five different ways throughout the estate papers and the will itself contains at least three spellings of HURST, so the spelling of FLUHARTY didn't phase me at all! You can see it/copy it at http://www.rootsweb.com/~inshelby/will_s_montgomery.htm Phyllis Miller Fleming Shelbyville, IN Miller-Morgan desc/Wetzel & Marshall Co WV

    3. H List, I thought this info might be useful to some of you since so many of the Valley Pioneers originally came from Pennsylvania. Janice The Pennsyvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) has published a revised and expanded edition of its *Guide to Genealogical Sources at the Pennsylvania State Archives.* The guide details public manuscripts and microfilm holdings that have genealogical potential, including information on passenger lists, naturalization records, county records, and family papers. The book is available for $12.95 plus tax and shipping from the Publications and Sales Program of the PHMC, PO Box 1026, Harrisburg, PA 17108-1026 or phone 800/747-7790. >From the Vol. 17, No. 1, Spring 1999, of TAPESTRY, newsletter of the PHMC. Also for Pennsylvania Researchers: There are a lot of little known PA museums and societies (some have email addresses) listed at the PHMC web site at: http://museumpa.pall.org/dir-mho1.htm

    1. Non-virtual dinner and trip
    2. Greetings! Sorry it has taken me so long to comment, but I somehow was stupid enough to break my right foot this week and everything is in a state of chaos here!!!! At least I will have some time to do work on the computer since I can't do much else!!!! My daughter and I had a wonderful time at the dinner and met a lot of interesting people. It was nice to put faces to the names I have been seeing for so long. Again a special thanks to Linda (and Daniele) for all the work to get it together. The cake was good too! BTW, we also had it for breakfast!!! Camping worked out well. On Sunday we spent some time in Moundsville and a lot of time in the Cameron area. We met so many helpful people there!! I found Big Run Church and Cemetary easily. It seems that half the cemetary is my people.... QUIGLEY, MURPHY, WILLIAMS, STIMMEL, CHAMBERS, REID, CALVERT, and I'm sure some others that I am not aware of yet!!! We spent the afternoon wandering around taking pictures and rubbings. I have to say I was surprised at myself when I got teary eyed at finding my ggg-grandparents tomb stones. It was also sad to see the state that some of the stones were in. I couldn't find everyone that should have been there, but the sunken ground near other relatives may have been them - minus the stones..... In all it was a great day. While there we met a very helpful man who drove school bus in the area.... he pointed us to a road nearby that was filled with my Quigley relatives. We got brave and stopped at a house where Quigley was on the box. It turned out that my gg-gf and their gg-gf were the same!!!! We spent a couple of hours talking and getting to know these people who were so great to welcome a stranger off the street!!!! They had lots of information on recent generations and I had some they needed on the past. We are going to keep in touch.... I hope to visit again this summer and they want to come to our Quigley reunion in PA!! I also found out that most of the people on the two or three "ridges" nearby were all related to me! It was really worth the trip!!! Sorry this is so long and not completely on track, but I figured our list has been slow this week and could take it!!! Thanks all! Take care and have a great day!!!!! Sandy in PA

    2. Crystal Allen
    3. If anyone can help, I'd be grateful. A mention of these reference books came to me second or third hand, and I'm not certain of the actual titles. I'd like to nail down the exact titles before I try searching for these books. So, has anyone heard of anything like or near the following: Howe's Ohio Valley History Scharf's Valley of Virginia Now, if someone not only knows the titles but also knows where to locate them---well, I'd be speechless with joy. Please e-mail me privately if you think this is not something of interest to the entire list. I subscribe to several lists, and, so far, I've never seen a question of any kind which hasn't been answered. 2. NO, I am not sure where WHITE's Bridge and White's Church was at. But because they did much building in WVA I thought I would ask if it rang bells. Possibly you can share more data ? I am still learning my way around WVA area from VA and the changes. Thanks to all whom gave answers on Metz, I have never seen it on a map yet...:>) [email protected]

    1. info source
    2. While I was "home" in Marshall County last week, I spent some good time at the City-County Library doing research. I had set myself the task of looking up several obituaries in the microfilmed copies of the Moundsville Echo. Once into them, I rediscovered the "Personals" column that they ran in years past and could not resist reading them as I browsed the pages. It was taking me off my primary task but it was fun so I kept at it. I made a marvelous discovery. An ancestor that had just seemed to disappear from the Marshall County census showed up in one of those personals. There she was visiting in Moundsville from Dilles Bottom, Ohio. Now I know why they were no longer in that census and I can pursue them in Ohio. So if you find yourself looking up something in the old Echos, let your eyes wander to the personals column. You may hit the jackpot like I did! It was wonderful meeting so many of you at the dinner. Hope we'll do it again some time. Alice Walton Mason

    3. Hi Linda & List: Don and I just returned from a whirlwind trip to FL and GA. My Dad still lives in FL and is now all alone there. We've encouraged him to sell the homestead on Treasure Island and move with us to the Cumming GA area where our son and his family live sometime soon. We'll be selling our home of 3+ years here in Round Rock TX soon too as Don will retire probably by the end of the year. My real reason for this is to tell you all that I wish we could have joined you in Marshall Co in May for the non-virtual reunion. We'll be up in that area the end of June for the 45th Claysville PA High School Reunion (Don's) and the Warth family reunion. This year I'm SURE I won't get any genealogy done as we're taking our d-i-l and baby granddaughter with us. I doubt if I'll let go of Caitie for the whole two weeks!!!! After that trip, I'll probably be off to FL to see to Dad's affairs then back here to work on our home. Whew!! Meanwhile, I'm still working on LOY, MARPLE, PURTLEBAUGH, RUCKMAN, VANAMAN and a bunch more in Marshall.... & WILKINSON, WAKEFIELD, RUCKMAN, WARTH in Belmont Judy Warth PS Linda: I will work on the birth and death lists, PROMISE!!
