    1. Re: [WVLOGAN] happy new year - question
    2. Hi Anita William Blizzard was the chairman of the UMWA, IN 1920. The movement started on Cabin Creek, Kanawha co. and spread to Logan county the same year. Organizng stopped after the miners defeat, and didnt resume until 1934, after which the movement rapidly accelerated. FDR was a union friendly president. 3. This is a timely subject for me, as I just finished reading the book "The Battle of Blair Mountain- The Story of America's Largest Labor Uprising," by Robert Shogan. I found it very interesting and recommend it to anyone who is interested in the that history of the unions, mines and the local area. I was borned in Ethel in a mining row house (1942), my father was born in Sharples (1913). paternal grandparents (Ball) lived in Clothier and owned a general store there (house still in family), and maternal grandfather (Fisher) built coal tipples in the area, etc., so it was very interesting to read about the area's involvement. Happy New Year to all. Sandra Ball Comer --- [email protected] wrote: > Hi Anita > William Blizzard was the chairman of the UMWA, IN > 1920.
