Shelby, There is a big fight going on in Raleigh County regarding Mountain Top Removal and the lives it is disrupting and once again Massey is right smack dab in the middlle of it. Massey has its employees brainwashed into thinking that if not for Massey Energy, there would be no work in the coal fields anymore. Just yesterday, I read a letter in the paper talking how they are using intimidation and threats of violence against a 93 yr. old widow because she is complaining about the damage to her house and property from all of the blasting. I can remember back in the seventies the blasting that occurred at Holden #27 and the damage to peoples not just from the blasting, but also from the boulders that hit the homes. If you were lucky enough to have someone to inspect the damage, you were usually told that the damage must have already been done and was of course no fault of theirs. Back then, it was called strip mining. But it seems all is about to be lost, in the peoples' quest for the memorial(see todays Chas, Gazette). The coal barons have protested to the National Parks; they claim a majority of ajoining land owners don't want the Memorial. The law requires a majority in favor, to suceed. 30 out of 50 landowners have spoken out against it. Once again, the coal operators have put fear in the people about job losses. The governor, and the mine workers union, have sided with the coal operators. Its a sad time for WV ! Shelby ************** A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps!
