Where did he hail from? I ask because the mystery of my second grandmother, Lucinda Clay Sturgell has finally been solved. The family story goes that Lucinda was a Cherokee orphaned in Pike County, KY and raised be a family named Clay. As we were researching her background, we could always found her with her mother and some other siblings always living next door to Andrew Jackson Akers. This AJ Akers signed for Lucinda to marry Blackburn Sturgell so everyone assumed that he was her father. But he was not. Jane Clay was orginially Jane Akers. She married James Clay who died when the children were small She and Andrew were brother and sister. Andrew Akers married "Polly" Branham in either Pike or Floyd County and therefore it was a Branham researcher who set me straight on the relationship between Andrew and Jane. No mention of him in the 'Baisden bible" (Descendents of David Branham ) No doubt he is a descendent of Joseph & Lucinda Osborne Baisden, since so many settled in the Dingess area of Mingo Co WV.
