If ever a town needed a water system, it was Chapmanville. The wells would go dry during the summer months, or get real low. I can remember carrying buckets of water from the Guyandotte river, so my grandmother Baisden could do the week's laundry. Her well was one of the first to go dry. This was back during the 1930s, and 40s. The new water system was a welcome sight to us ! Shelby
