    3. Anita, I wonder what has caused your springs to change color? Have you had it tested? Out here in my area I call the Arkansas River 'Ole muddy'. lol, have never seen it clear. Just the way it is. Even before it was dammed, and was low enough to walk across, it was brown, and didn't we dare walk across it because of the quicksand. Keystone Lake near Tulsa has red/orange water but that is from the red clay. That's why I love the pics of WV streams and waterfalls. Would love, just once, to see clear running water. Guess I need to travel more. Gracie, I can attest the ugly water. Back in the late seventies, early eighties my parents bought this farm where we all now reside (Fayette County) - they in one house and my son and I in another. Running along side of my house are two streams. One runs thru my yard and the other on the othes side of the road. Both of these are natural springs and the one on the other side of the road turned red seveal years ago and now I am seeing hints of red in the one that runs thru my yard. You know what is interesting? There has been no "strip mining, MTR" anywhere near our farm. Hi cuz Shelby I hope those young people do get nation wide attention. We could all send their news reports to local newspapers everywhere. I really enjoyed reading the 'Coal Tattoo' blog, quite interesting. What makes me sad is: Court rejects Obama efforts to reverse Bush mining changes U.S. District Judge Henry H. Kennedy Jr. seems to be anti-environment from what I have read this afternoon. Was horrified when I saw that yellow/orange stream picture. Streams in WV are supposed to be clean and clear. Big secret that the coal companies don't want you to know is that the use of coal has dropped a lot recently. Since the big wind farms are being put up nation wide. There is still hope. West Virginia(and other states nearby) is still beautiful. Would like to see it stay that way. 3. Gracie, I don't know but my neighbor West Virginian born and bred blames it on the mines. Not sure if anyone has ever had it tested or not. I haven't. When I get a chance, I will send you pictures of falls and river (New). 3. Gas well drilling changes the smell and taste of well water.... For many years throughout the 1950's into the mid-1980's near Chapmanville, my parents had the best well water to drink.  It had absolutley no odor or taste other than pure good water from the ground, until the early 1990's when they began drilling gas wells in Chapmanville.  Suddenly, my parents well water began tasting like rotten eggs and smelling of sulfur and gasoline....Just aweful.  My mother finally had to hook up to city water. The DEP never would look into it.  But everybody's pooh from Man to Logan to Mitchell Hts to Chapmanville goes down the Guyandotte River and that is what is used for our CITY WATER........Go figure!   LOLLOLOLOL I really have to laugh about that one.  But I drink it too. Oh well.   ________________________________ From: Anita McClung <anitajoe1963@yahoo.com> To: wvlogan@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, August 28, 2009 12:10:35 PM Subject: Re: [WVLOGAN] Makes me sad.
