Many people already knew about it when she was a little girl. The school children would taunt her with, "Your Papa really isn't your Papa!" Even thought that had moved 1500 miles from where she was born other Quaker families moved to the same place. She didn't learn the real truth until she was 16. I'm sure that people in your gr-grandfather's family knew, too. I don't think that in this day and age that you will shock anyone. If your genealogy program allows you to make new "fact" titles you can make one called "Never Wed" or "Never Married." It is simply recording a historical fact.
