Jim & Shelby, I have been much confused on the Louisa Workmans from census records and it took me a while to straighten them out. I just looked at the 1850 Logan County and Boone County census again. Jane Moore Workman is listed in the 1850 Logan County census. The last two children are Benjamin age 8 and Valentine age 2. Valentine later appears as Valentine Nelson in the 1860 Boone County census with Jane Moore Workman s/o Greenville and Margaret Ann (Workman) Nelson per 1860 Boone County annotated census by Sigfus Olafson. James M. and Nancy (Jarrell) Workman are listed in the 1850 Boone County census with daughter Louisa J. age 1. 31-B 7 414 414 WORKMAN JAMES 43 M FARMER 400 VIRGINIA 31-B 8 414 414 WORKMAN NANCY 19 F VIRGINIA 31-B 9 414 414 WORKMAN LOUISA J. 1 F VIRGINIA James s/o John and Jane (Moore) disappears after the 1850 census. He is listed as being in Company E, 11th Virginia Infantry in the Mexican War in the Kith and Kin Vol II 1850 annotated census. The Mexican War was from 1846-48. Nancy Jarrell m. Isaac H. Workman April 24, 1855 in Boone County, (West) Virginia. Louisa Jane Workman is listed in the 1860 as age 11 born in Boone County with Jane (Moore) Workman as follows: Jane Workman 61 Bath Benjamin 18 Logan Louisa J. 11 Boone Valentine Nelson 12 Boone Nancy Jane 8 Boone Ruhama 6 Boone William Workman 21 Logan John Dent 20 Kanawha Darcus 22 Logan Virginia E. 11/12 Boone Louisa J. and William Workman do not appear in the 1860 Boone County annotated census by Sigfus Olafson for some reason. I have concluded that Louisa J. Workman was the d/o James M. and Nancy (Jarrell) Workman by her location in the 1850 census and she was raised by Jane Moore Workman. I guess I could be wrong and she was a late child born to John and Jane (Moore) Workman that was living with her son and new wife Nancy Jarrell or perhaps she was missing from the 1850 Logan County census. I know Shelby and Norma have always maintained that Louisa Jane Workman was the d/o John and Jane (Moore) Workman and perhaps they know better than I. Plus you have the marriage record for Louisa Jane Workman to James H. P. Elkins.
