In the early part of the 1900 s, electricity came to the mines in Logan Co. WV. The old Soverign Coal Co. mine at Blair, was partly electrified, with an open live overhead wire called a "trolley wire". It served the purpose of a power source for cutting & drilling coal in the mines working places.Mules were used to haul the coal cars out of the mine.Curtis Reeves was the mule driver.They were ending the shift one day, and the men all loaded into the mine cars for the trip outside.The mule somehow got his ear into the live trolley wire, and he leaped backward into the crowd of miners. It took a while to get them all out from underneath the animal, grin ! This was a bit before my time, and was told by George Franklin Crabtree(Frank), who was one of the unlucky miners the mule fell on !
