Thomas J. Vance, 1841-1913, b. OH, d. Bartlett, Labette Co., KS, left a family bible and I'm trying to track it down to verify what I have found in other places. It has a list of the children of James Vance, 1795-1872, and Barbara E. Miller, his first wife. The Vance Bible may have belonged to his mother Barbara Miller Vance who died in the 1890s. It may have been passed on to Thomas' oldest daughter, Mary Alice Newton because she had the family history recorded from it to give to the younger generations. Mary Alice had no descendants so she may have passed the Bible on to a nephew or niece or it may have ended up in a local museum. She died in 1966 at the age of 101 in either Montgomery Co., or Labette Co., KS. Even though there are still Vances in Labette Co descended from Thomas J. Vance, many moved on to MO, OK, and TX. Are any of you descended from this family? Where is the Vance Bible now???
