    3. I must have missed part of the thread concerning The Hotel Madison. Sylvia Petrey owned the Hotel until her death in November 1971. The Coal Valley News had a very nice article about the Hotel Madison in the Feb. 25, 2004 issue. Anyway, Sylvia Petrey was my grandmother, Lola Mullins Wilburn's sister and I spent many hours exploring the Hotel Madison, sure am glad I never heard about the haunting. I used to walk there after school (I lived on Hill Street with my Grandpa Ike Wilburn for several months in the Spring of 1964, I was in second grade.)Aunt Sylvia had a beautiful player piano in the basement of the hotel; I would practice playing the piano everyday, and then walk home. Aunt Sylvia had a beautiful flower garden in her side yard. I wonder is it is still there? Myrtle Mullins Owens, "Aunt Myrtle", did stay there for a period of time. I remember her helping Aunt Sylvia. I also remember reading a Family Bible during one of my visits when I was about 13. The Bible contained many Mullins names. (Funny, I remember this because there was a cute guy I knew at home in Ohio with the last name of Mullins! I wondered if maybe we were related.) I do not know if this is the same Bible, but it was old and went back several generations. No, I do not know where it is, I wish I did. Must have been my first exposure to genealogy. The Hotel Madison is a century old; Once, there was a murder on the stairsteps, and people say the Hotel is haunted. I stayed there a few times, but saw nothing, but did heara gush of wind in the upstairs room, when all the doors & windows were shut. It is a throwback to the old hotels; still use skeleton door keys and anchient decorations. Still a landmark in Boone county. Shelby ============================== Search the US Census Collection. 3. Evelyn, Great Story - My I have your permission to put this story in my Mullins Notes file. I would love to know where that Bible is. Sigfus Olafson and Dave Turner tried to get Aunt Myrtle to make a copy of the Bible (notes on Nathaniel Mullins family) but she would not let them. thanks Jim Burgess -----Original Message----- From: Evelyn Sukey [mailto:elsukey@glwb.net] Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 1:25 PM To: WVLOGAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [WVLOGAN] Hotel Madison Spooks ?
