    3. Jim, I have been unable to locate June B. Ashworth to see if her "Walker Family History" book is still available but I doubt that it is after 10 years. It is a very nice hard cover book about 2 inches thick. Sorry I couldn't locate her, I am in the process of moving and much of my genealogical material is packed, but I don't think I ever had her phone no. Vernia

    3. Another excellent book on the Walker family was written by Glennis Walker in 1991: The History of the Walker Family, 1734-1990 : & Their Kindred with Related Incidents ( Cool Ridge, West Virginia : G.R. Walker, 1991). This 725-page, down-to-earth reference has much that is applicable to our Walker kin in West Virginia. I understand that Glennis is dead now, but his book may be available at heritage book stores. The progenitor of this line of the Walker family in America is credited to the migration of Thomas Walker from England, and settlement in Orange County, Virginia in 1734. He married Elizabeth Taylor ca. 1738. Thomas was a large planter, and enjoyed a well organized plantation proprietor's life, having ownership to widespread tracts of land in Orange and surrounding counties, including many Negro slaves, holdings and improvements. Descendants of Thomas Walker lived in Virginia, West Virginia and elsewhere. This Thomas Walker Walker is not to be confused with another Thomas Walker (1715-1794) who was a doctor, statesman, soldier and explorer.
