Newport is the old name for Danville,WV; no ways near Ashford. As for the Workmans,Kinders, Barkers being the first settlers, I cannot believe. In the history of Boone county there is no mention of them being in combat with the Indians, but the Toneys sure f ought them. The root diggers were there first (genseng).The Dempseys in Logan county dug seng too.The pretty little hollow named Dempsey Camp was named for one of their root encampments, at Blair. Shelby
