Thanks, Jim; As you already know, your grandfather(Cornelious Burgess), and mine (John Wilson Burgess) enlisted at Brownstown(Marmet) in the 7th WV cavalry. Im wondering why they didnt enlist at Mud River, or Peytona, which would have involved less travel. Granpa JW got a medal for his service. I never saw it; but my dad said so. Probably went to James Lewis Burgess, his oldest son. They were both in company I. As you know, the company was involved in the Battle Of Droop Mountain.Pocahontas co. It was the bloodiest battle in WV history.About 150 lives were lost that day. Cuz; Shelby ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
I have the metal medallion of my grand father Cornelius Burgess - it is one of my precious earthly possessions. His name is engraved on the side of the coin Good question - on Mud River or Peytona? I have no idea. Maybe we can figure it out. I want to add their information to Logan county recreated.
