    3. I love that phrase, too. West Virginia and the beautiful people there are God's country. I've not felt at home since I left 52 years ago. It's time for another visit to Logan County although everyone I held dear is long gone. It means so much to be connected to all of you. Ada Wilson Kent -----Original Message----- From: wvlogan-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wvlogan-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Anita McClung Sent: Sunday, May 03, 2009 12:36 PM To: logan county Cc: Pamela Steele Subject: [WVLOGAN] phones in church Normally I would not pass this along on the list, but I thought it was worth it.   Anita   PHONES IN CHURCH ?????   A man in Topeka ,   Kansas decided to write a book about churches around   the country.. He started by flying to San  Francisco and started working  east from there.     Going to a very large church, he  began taking  photographs and making notes.   He spotted a golden telephone on the  vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which  read "Calls: $10,000  a minute."   Seeking out the pastor he asked about the  phone and the sign.   The pastor answered  that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to  heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly  to GOD. The man thanked the pastor and  continued on his way. As he continued to  visit  churches in Seattle , Dallas , St. Louis , Chicago ,   Milwaukee , and  around the United States , he  found more phones, with the same sign, and  the  same answer from each pastor. Finally, he  arrived in West Virginia , upon entering a church in Man, West Virginia , behold - he saw the usual golden telephone.    But THIS time, the sign  read  "Calls: 35 cents" Fascinated, he asked to  talk to the pastor, "Reverend, I have been in cities  all across the country and in each church I have  found this golden telephone and have been told it is  a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to  GOD, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000   a minute. Your sign reads only 35 cents a  call. Why?" I love this  part.....    The pastor,  smiling broadly, replied, "Son, you're in West Virginia  now... You're in God's Country... It's a local  call." ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WVLOGAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Vernia, Thanks for checking! I have not found much on Nancy Crabtree and Hannah Crabtree m. John Allen Turley from the Washington and Tazewell County areas. They could be children of James Crabtree b. abt. 1756 and Priscilla Richardson unmarried far as I can tell. Rhoda Benton Fields is mixed in some how. Joel WILL OF JAMES CRABTREE Will Book 5, p. 113, Washington County, Virginia 11 February 1823 In the name of God Amen - I James Crabtree of Washington County and State of Virginia, being of sound & disposing mind & memory but weak in body, and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and being desirous to dispose of such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with, which has not been disposed of by my Deed of Gift which bears the same date with this my last Will and Testament. Do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say - I desire that the whole of my estate which has not been disposed of by my deed of Gift this day executed by me, after paying all my just debts, may be equally divided between my son Gabriel Crabtree and my Grandson James Crabtree the son of Sally Buchanan, to take effect or to be done immediately after my decease. It is my Will & desire that my negro man Stephen shall enjoy his freedom during his natural life. - The above mentioned property of whatever kind it may happen to be at my decease, is to be enjoyed by my son Gabriel Crabtree & my Grandson James Crabtree their heirs and assigns forever. And lastly I do constitute and appoint my friends Richard Roberts, Jun. & James Taylor Executors of this my last Will & Testament, hereby revoking all other & former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 11th day of February 1823. Signed - James (his mark) Crabtree Signed sealed published and declared in presence of us James Taylor, James F. Crabtree & Alexander (his mark) Buchanan At a court held for Washington County the 15th day of July 1823. The last Will & Testament of James Crabtree, dec'd was exhibited in court and proven by the oath of Samuel Taylor James F. Crabtree and Alexander Buchanan the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded - and the executors named in the said Will refuses to take probate thereof. On the motion of Gabriel Crabtree one of the sons of the testator, there being no widow living, who took oath of an administrator, with the will annexed, prescribed by law and entered into and acknowledged his bond with James Taylor, security in the sum of five hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs - A certificate is therefore granted him for the administration of the estate of the said James Crabtree, dec'd, with the will annexed in due form. 3. Well hello Vernia! I do not know who my Browning and Crabtree ancestors are. Alexander Buchanan m. Nancy Crabtree. Both died in Logan County after 1860. William Browning m. Catherine Anglin and he died before 1850 in Logan County and Catherine died aft. 1860 in Wyoming County. 3. Hello Russ - My Berrys go back to Isaac and Jane (Hale) Berry in VA in 1780. Some say he was an Irish immigrant, but I've seen no documentation of it. I descend thru his son Jubal who married Margaret Thompson d/o Richard Thompson and a Cherokee wife named Elizabeth. Next is their son Wiley who moved to Jackson Co., VA/WVa in the 1850s and married Ellen Dawson. Their son Green Berry was my great grandfather. I'll check on Hugh Thomas Berry if you will give me some time frame. I know more of the Floyd/Lawrence Cos. Berrys came across to WVa. 3. Normally I would not pass this along on the list, but I thought it was worth it. It's a local  call."
