Hi Judi; Johnny was wanting to know if I knew of a Paul Baisden recently mentioned in the Banner obits. His wife died at age 56 in Holden,Logan co. WV.Her name was: Judith (Tomblin) Baisden, dau of Walter Tomblin. The only Paul Baisden I know of is my cousin last heard of in Texas He would be about 82 years old, if still living. I havent heard of him for a long while. I believe he m. Otta Mae Jackson in Logan co WVa about 1950. Some other Paul Baisdens are mentioned in my notes, but are much too old to apply to the man mentioned in the obituary. Good to hear from you again, Judi ! Cuz, Shelby

Hi Shelby and Johnny, I have been off line for quite a while as I was and have moved. Same City just closer to my daughter and yes, I question my sanity daily as I try to make a new home as I dig through boxes an unending job. But, I did not read Johnny's question, just your reply Shelby re, Paul Baisden. I have made some new Baisden contacts and if I could have the question I will do my best to reach out to these folks with it to see if I can dig anything up for you. 'Gincy'. was old nickname for Virginia. C'mon, Brenda, need help with some nicknames ! I believe that some nicknames were created by the small siblings, just learning to talk; James might come out of a one year old's mouth as 'jamie', or 'jimmy'. Henry might be shortened to 'hank' Robert may sound like 'robby', or 'bobby'. What do you think ? Shelby
Anita; David Branham was my gggg grandfather. He was b. about 1730, Richmond co. Va.Died before 1830, in Floyd co. Ky.. He m. Francis Baskett. He was a tobacco exporter to England David's daughter,Rhoda, married John Smith Baisden ( my ancestor) This Andrew J.Akers you mentioned , was quite a Romeo: He fathered 8 children out of wedlock, the story goes. He was only m. once (Mary Branham). 4. Lucinda Clay b. 1830 Pike co. Ky.dau of Jane Clay & Andrew Akers. m.1.Blackburn Sturgill, b. 1828.s/o Eli & Priscilla M,eade Sturgill. m2. Lewis Belcher, b.1828; s/o Jesse Belcher. Shelby
Wow, so I could have been something other than "Janie", that my in-laws call me. And then of course there is always, "Jane Ellen" by my parents, when I was in trouble. Jane (Spurlock) Hoholski
The old nickname for Jane was 'jensy' , or 'jensie'. Shelby
Gracie, I am sorry I was in a hurry this morning. Lucinda was the "adopted" daughter of James Clay and Jane Akers. As we were researching her background, we could always found her with her mother and some other siblings always living next door to Andrew Jackson Akers. Shelby, I just saw a death notice in the Logan Banner online for Judith Baisden, d/o Walter and Goldie Mae Tomblin and wife of Paul Baisden. I have 5 Paul's in my data, no spouses for any of them, 2 of which are deceased, the other 3 are alive? Do you know anthing about this Paul Baisden listed, who are his parents, etc? Hello Shelby - I think mullen is used for some medicines. There is a large branch of the Mullinses who descend from Abraham des Moulines. I believe Solomon Mullins of Logan Co. was from this branch. When Doc Mullins tried to trace our Mullinses, he settled on Nathaniel being the son of another Nathaniel due to the signature on the marriage bond between our Nathaniel and Margaret Wilson. It turns out that census info indicates the older Nathaniel was illiterate and could not have signed the bond. And around and around we go. Rick; I agree the Mullins,Mullen, McMullin names are hard to track down. Yours and, my ancestor,Esther McMullin( wife of Matthew Farley ), was probably Scotch Irish. The "Mc' could have been dropped somewhere along the line. Moulin is a French name and could have been Anglicized later on. There is also a Gaelic version of the name, which adds to the confusion Getting back to the Mullen herb, or weed : It resembles tobacco leaves in the wild state. It grows all over WV, and probably England as well. The English made a tea from the herb I understand, and could have been smoked as well. Cousin; Shelby
Congrats on your Stewart family research, cousin Rick. I know you are proud to descend from Charles Stewart (1610). Not much to report on the Mullins name though ; I kinda believe it came from the herb 'Mullen,Mullin)' which grows wild, and has some nicotine in it. The old English were nuts about tobacco, and even founded a new country,America, to get the stuff. What do you think ? cuz Shelby
