Dear Logan County Cousins, I have spent this evening trying to recreate briefly the lives of my following ancestors. James Harley Brown and Nancy Celite Toler Stephen Browning and Lucinda Brown Hiram Grant Burgess and Lena Mae Browning. Why didn't I do this years ago? Most of you are smarter than I. If you have not written a brief history of your parents, grand parents, and great grand parents you should. It is a very therapeutic excercise. We talk so much about being genealogist, we should at least recreate their lives in writing so that our grand children know a little about them. I have been keeping a personal journal for about 30 years. I write what I have done for the last week usually on Sunday mornings. Takes me about 5-10 minutes. I have been adding these stories into my journal. God Bless Each and Every Member of this List. Jim Burgess
Thanks, I have Henry's Bible and it gives all the names and dates, It is I believe in Stan's book. I just couldn't figure out where the connection was. My dna linked me to this family on my mother's side and it surprised me. I haven't strated this line yet and I'm not familiar with it. Thanks, Bonnie
Sorry, forgot my ancestor, it was Henry. Working to many graveyards. Thanks, Bonnie
Need information on Amos Workman. thanks anita
Below is the marriage info for my great grand aunt Mary Ann Stewart and William Mournen discussed on these lists recently. My thanks to Barbara. Rick Stewart Mary Ann Stewart married William Mournen Oct. 10, 1872. Mary was 28yrs. old, William was 42yrs.old and a widower. Source; Kith and Kin Vol. XXII pg. 88 and Boone County Marriages 1865-1874.
Correction on my Workman post: Richard Hewitt was the name of the surveyor killed by Indians.Sorry about that. The Laurel Fork of Spruce is also called Stark, named for the the timberman who logged the area I would like to hear from any descendents of Tuncil, Wm., Dorcas Workman Dent; Benjamin Workman too. Shelby.
Thanks for all of the Workman information everyone has been sharing. Two or three years ago we tried to find the Old Workman Cemetery at Bald Knob, but were unsuccessful. I was trying to find the grave of Joseph Workman, son of James and Nancy, who married Elizabeth (McNeely/Elkins). We couldn't find anyone around that could help us. Do any of you have good directions that would help us find it? Bonnie I ran ancestry.com check and researchers reported the same as Jim on Henry Browning and Emmaline Canterbury. They gave a marriage date of 1870 but it is not documented. Children on Henry and Emmaline were Mary M. b. 18 June 1872 Scott b. July 1874 Marshall Lee b. 1876 Fannie Bell b. 1877 Lewis H. b. 1882 They gave no documention on dates of birth either. Jim, I know this is off the current subject but in your research did you make a link between William Browning and Emmaline Canterbury to William Browning and Rebecca Toler? I'm over looking it somewhere. Thanks, Bonnie
Bonnie, I do not know about a William Browning who married Emmaline Canterbury. There is a Henry Browning who married Emmaline Canterbury who was the son of my Nathaniel Browning and Margaret Peggy Browning. William Browning who married Rebecca Toler was the son of Reuben Browning and Polly Robinson. Henry Browning was the nephew of William Browning. The picture on the front is in beautiful color and makes you want to return to West Virginia. The picture on the back clearly shows the migration path of our Browning ancestors to Southern West Virginia. The index takes us through the story of our family in America to Logan County, West Virginia. The documentation is better than I had expected. I have been previewing the book for the last two hours looking for something I could challenge, no such luck. This book is a meticulous work of art by a fine man. The pictures of our family are breath taking. The investment and time that has gone into this book is beyond imagination. As far as the William Browning and Catherine Anglin family are concerned. I believe that Stan has captured the truth pefectly. If you are a Browning descendant you should purchase a copy of this book immediately. This is what I have so far. I still need more proof about all this, picky, aren't I? (The WW1 card sure looks promising.) Need a marriage license or something, just not sure where to look, Kansas or Colorado. Remember this was just a quick search. And I have mainly looked for Alert/Alart Newland. I did look a little for Addie and her husband Charley Steen. I am not sure that is the right surname. Was very hard to read in the 1900 census. Didn't have much luck finding them. Also having a problem with Rebecca Williams listing her father as born in Pa. Coal mining followed all the way to Colorado, guess WV blood requires it. lol Gracie ======================================================= Rebecca HAGAR Female Birth Year <1862> Birthplace WV Age 18 Occupation At Home Marital Status S <Single> Race W <White> Head of Household Elisabeth TYZEN Relation Dau <Daughter> Father's Birthplace VA Mother's Birthplace VA ------------------------------------------------------ Source Information: Census Place Elk Horn, Lincoln, Kansas Family History Library Film 1254386 NA Film Number T9-0386 Page Number 451D ------------------------------------------------------- Elisabeth TYZEN Self W F W 64 Keeping House VA/VA/VA Aaron HAGAR Son S M W 21 Works On Farm WV/VA/VA Rebecca HAGAR Dau S F W 18 At Home WV/VA/VA ======================================================= Name: Rebecca Newland Home in 1900: Denver, Arapahoe, Colorado Age: 38 Estimated birth year: abt 1862 Birthplace: West Virginia Race: White Relationship to head-of-house: Head ------------------------------------------------------ Image source: Year: 1900; Census Place: Denver, Arapahoe, Colorado; Roll: T623 119; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 93. ----------------------------------------------------- Newland, Rebecca w f Nov? 1861 38 Wd 6 6/1?
