A Mullins Cousin Reunion will be held Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Chief Logan Park, at shelter no. 6, from 11:00 am to dusk. These are descendants of Nathaniel Mullins. Genealogy and family tree sharing; live music. Barbara Mullins Kral of Chicago, Ill., is coordinator...she requests that it is Picnic style....and that everyone try to bring enough food and/or drink to share. (Knowing that many will be traveling far, most families living within Logan area, bring lots of food). I, and my husband's family will be there. My mother in law was a Mullins. She remembers so much, and loves to tell her family's history. Everyone invited! Sandi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! There is a Scott Collins in the 1870 Boone annotated census. He is with his mother Nancy Collins, age 40. This Scott was 17 in 1870 so born 1853. There is nothing in the annotation section except that Nancy Collins was born in PA ca. 1830. That usually indicates that a family moved on elsewhere and left no records of childrens' marriages, etc. Rick
I have wondered about some facts I have found that are mainly about out-of-wedlock children, divorces, and lack of marriages. I imagine most of us make these little discoveries. I worry about posting them in case it is someone's great great grandmother. One of my Logan Co. gg grandfathers had a child born to a young ladyprior to 1861 - maybe late1850s. She was listed as his next of kin on his military papers. How do you all handle this sort of thing? Thanks. Rick
Did anyone go to the Holden 22 mine reunion in Logan County, WV? Thanks. Karen
Some big, dark family secret. Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Horton, eldest daughter of William Solomon "Bill" Horton and Ethel Lorraine (Collins) Morris, had two younger siblings: Bill, Jr. and Barbara Sue. Sue's in Calif now. Don't know where he is. Betty died not too long ago. She was my cousin by three ways, that we know of, and she and I together took care of Aunt Dana in her final years. Dana was Betty's ex-mother-in-law. Betty's mom Ethel was adopted at age 5 by Winfield Scott "Scotty" Morris and Iva Elizabeth Williams (of the Williams Mtn family). Scotty was a coal miner all over the SW WV counties. Just after Ethel's 3d child was born (c.1940-42), Ethel lost her mind, went so out of it. She was like a child, had to be tended to by her mother more than the 3 kids she had. Betty remembers her grandmother bathing the two of them (Betty and her mom), dressing them and combing and braiding their hair as if they were sisters instead of mother and daughter. She never said much and when she did, it didn't make sense. One thing she always said before and after this crash was, "You know I'm a Collins. Why did you change my name?" She began to run off, to go find her family. They had to get a posse of men and dogs and comb the mountains for her all the time, she'd wander off and get lost during the winter time especially. The sheriff finally told her parents they had to put her up, so she went to Huntington and spent the rest of her days there, died there. Once a month or so, the grandparents took a train up to Huntingtonto visit Ethel. Betty remembers going once but didn't like the smell and wouldn't go back. We found Ethel's birth certificate at the courthouse and sure enough it says Collins. A line has been drawn through the original b/c and Morris hand-written in on top of Collins. Her grandparents also raised but never adopted another child, Amos Baisden. In Scotty's old age, he lived w/ Amos, his wife Mary & their 6 boys, and that is where he died, with them, in 1957 in Logan Co. It was and is a real mind-bender. I found Ethel & Bill's marriage cert at the courthouse at Williamston. Never could find a death cert for her, for Betty. She wanted it for her kids. Scotty Morris is supposed to have been one of the finest men ever to walk the face of the earth, kind and loving and good, a hard worker and loved kids. We always wondered if it was from childbirth or ??? Bill the husband, went to the service, was wounded, recouped and joined another branch of the service, then took to driving long-distance haulers. Anything to get him out of the house and away. After Ethel was committed, he divorced her and we lose him. Sue At 04:32 PM 6/19/06 -0400, you wrote: >Thank you, Sue. Hi Sandi Just wondering which Nathaniel Mullins this was.???? Son of John R. and Rhoda (Baisden) Mullins?? If so, sure wish I could go. That would have been my second cousin, twice removed. Hope someone who goes is willing to post pics for those of us who just live too far away. If anyone has access to censuses from 1870 and 1880, I would appreciate a lookup for Elmer and Viney Smith and household in Logan or Wyoming Cos. A Scott Collins may be in the home. My thanks. Rick

Hi Jim. Wonder if your book has Lydia Ferrell Mullins and father, Thomas Mullins, of Clay County in it? Also Elizabeth Brown who married William Hamrick around 1835 from Nicholas and Clay Counties? If so, I could send a money order. These are my ancestors. Caroline
