    2. Anita; How close are these two old mining towns ? I remember the terrible explosion back in the 1930 s when about 80 miners were killed at Glen Rogers. The company advertised for miners in the Logan & Boone newspapers; everyone was too scared to work in that gassy mine. They closed operations for lack of help; they had a good marketable coal in the Pocahontas seam. Shelby

    2. I wondered about the little cabins along the river I saw when I took the boat ride at Hawks Nest. He takes you both ways, under the new River bridge a ways and also the other direction. There are some little cabins that are abandend but some looked kept up just along the river bank. Does anyone know?     2. Thought someone on the list might like to see this lady's obit. Anita Nora Elizabeth Bryant Scites Nora Elizabeth Bryant Scites, 98, formerly of 106 Maple Ave., Beckley, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006, at the Hidden Valley Nursing Home in Oak Hill, where she had been a resident for eight years. Mrs. Scites was born Sept. 29, 1907, at Matewan. She worked for many years at the Logan Mercantile Store before moving to Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawton Scites of Logan; her parents, William Estell Bryant and Eliza Ellen Brammer Bryant of Beckley; three sisters, Irene Carman of Beckley, Minnie Elliott of Glasgow, and Athelene Spears of Logan. She is survived by her only son, William E. Bryant of Hampton, Va.; two grandsons, Samuel E. Bryant, of Hampton, and William L. Bryant of Chicago, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Kelly M. Wilson of Hampton, Kevin M. Bryant of Chesapeake, Va., Christopher W. Bryant of Chicago, Ill., and Lauren A. Bryant of San Antonio, Texas; and three great-great-grandchildren, Breanna M. Wilson, Lauren N. Wilson, and Dylan M. Wilson of Hampton. There will be a small private service for immediate family only. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Hidden Valley Nursing Home for the yeas of loving treatment and special care provided to the matriarch of our family.
