    3. My grandmother, Synthia Ann (Workman) Smith (born 1874) used to tell us scarey stories that had been passed from generation to generatkion in her family. One of the stories was "Rawhead And Bloody Bones". I can't remember the plot, but seems like RHABB lived in an attic? (Maybe murdered in an attic? But I may have it confused with another story?) I tried to "Google" it but coudn't find the actual story. It appears that there were different versions- mostly a monster living in a swamp. Some say the story was Gaelic, some say Celtic, some say English (Lancashire and Yorkshire) and some say that slaves brought the story from Africa. The Oxford English Dictionary dates the name Rawhead And Bloody Bones back as far as circa1550. Does anyone remember your parents or grandparents telling you the story called "Rawhead And Bloody Bones"? Would love to read some of the old stories that our Logan County ancestors used to tell us when we were children (60 to 80 years ago). Dodie --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. 3. Ok.. I went to topozone.... And here are the "Glen"s in Logan, Mingo, Raliegh, Fayette, Boone and surrounding areas. Glen Alum Mingo WV town/city 1138 feet Wharncliffe 37.585ºN 81.993ºW Glen Alum Junction Mingo WV town/city 811 feet Wharncliffe 37.543ºN 81.996ºW Glen Daniel Raleigh WV town/city 1902 feet Eccles 37.779ºN 81.337ºW Glen Ferris Fayette WV town/city 680 feet Gauley Bridge 38.153ºN 81.215ºW Glen Fork Wyoming WV town/city 1420 feet Matheny 37.696ºN 81.529ºW Glen Jean Fayette WV town/city 1600 feet Oak Hill 37.926ºN 81.150ºW Glen Morgan Raleigh WV town/city 2140 feet Beckley 37.756ºN 81.159ºW Glen Rogers Wyoming WV town/city 1880 feet McGraws 37.715ºN 81.418ºW Glen View Raleigh WV town/city 2480 feet Lester 37.741ºN 81.258ºW Glen White Raleigh WV town/city 2160 feet Lester 37.730ºN 81.280ºW Glen White Junction (historical) Raleigh WV town/city 1985 feet Eccles 37.761ºN 81.294ºW Glen Daniel is near Eccles... So this is the one you go through taking 99 to 3 into Beckley. The reason for so many towns being named "Glen" here's the wikipedia definition of glen A glen is a valley, typically one that is long, deep, and often glacially U-shaped, or a waterway running through such a valley. The word comes from the Irish Language/Scottish Gaelic language word gleann. As the name of a river, it is thought to derive from the Welsh language glan meaning clean, or gleindid meaning purity. 1. Re: Re: [WVLOGAN] Glens
    2. Thank you, Shelby. I knew I had been through Glen Daniels on the way to Beckley on many occasions. To add to the Glens, besides Glen Ferris there is a Glen Alum somewhere. So Glen means valley. I've heard the words glen and dale. Some time before the summer is over I am hoping that I will get to visit Logan again. If I make it there I will look you up. Thanks again Beulah McLemore Keeping in touch, keeps friendship growning. 703-620-1389  home 703-405-5522  cell -----Original Message----- From: Harts High School [mailto:hartshighschool@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, July 23, 2006 10:33 AM To: WVLOGAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WVLOGAN] Dillion,Kinser,Adams Cemetery on Trace in Logan Co I promised a really nice lady I'd visit this cemetery and take pictures this summer, and I lost her email address . 2. Anita, I forgot to say that "Little" Jimmy Dickens was born in Glen Rogers and lived just across the mountain when he was inducted into the Nashville Hall of Fame. Lee

    1. Re: [WVLOGAN] Glen Jean & Glen Rogers
    2. That's OK Anetia. Glen Rogers has an infamous past. There was a day (time) when no one who didn't live there, went into Glen Rogers after dark. I picked up several people killed inn the mine for Robertson/Foglesong Funeral home and used my red lights for "safety" purposes. This is not to say that MANY fine families lived there then, and still do. One of our Governors lived there at one time and several prominent writers and professional "hillbillies" . I understand that Mark Twain may have made a visit when he was in the Mullens area. There is lots of good history of Glen Rogers and someone should be researching and recording this. With all due Respects, Lee Hash (born at Bud)

    1. Need help from Logan Countians :)
    2. Hello. I am writing a story set in about 1880 in Logan County, WV. I need some historical information such as what type of clothing they wore, which towns were populated, was liquor legal? :) What was the black population, Indian, etc. Anything like that would be a big help. If you know of any good resources, please let me know. Iva (Lilly) Durham http://www.writing.com/authors/crankee

    1. Re: [WVLOGAN] Twins-
    2. Twins: I married a twin born in 1946 in Logan county, WV. His mother's sister, (both were born Crabtrees) also had a set of twins. My mother-in-law told me once that she thought her twins might have been triplets, that she 'lost' something early in her pregnancy. My husband and his twin brother were born at their Grandmother Crabtree's house in Shamrock. They were early so the arrival of twins was a total surprise! Mrs. Damron had twin boys- mirror twins. Her sister Mrs. Gollihue had fraternal twins- a boy and a girl. Gloria Damron ~ > My great-grandmother was the daughter of Marcena Vance Reeves and the > granddaughter of James & Barbara Vance.
