I have the following bit of info because my Grandfather Gore's ancestor, Nancy b 1816 d/o Evan Ellis married into the Gore family. Another bit of info states Evan Ellis & Margaret Hines. His parents were was Owen Ellis, Sr. and Christina Doren. Owen, Sr's parents were John and Elizabeth Ellis. Person giving this info in 1998 was Pat Higley thehigs@oly.net who said from a book "Ellis Family History" by Shirley Green Ulaki whose address was 203 Dixon Lane, Beckley, WV 25801. Ellen is shown in the 1920 Logan co. census, at age 31, single, living with her parents Harvey & Nancy {Hatfield} Grimmett. i have been unable to establish a connection between Ellen Grimmett and Rebecca Eastridge's mother, Nellie Grimmett, as yet....if there is one....but suspect there prob. will be. i cannot find Allen in the 1920 or 1930 censuses ! He would have still been single in 1920, but if we could find him in 1930 with Ellen, it may show them with children? but then again , there may not be any , as she was a bit old when she did marry, yes? but we don't even know WHEN she died...only that it was before 1937, when he is listed as a widower on his 2nd marriage cert: Allen Nelson , widower, age 40 ... s/o U.S. Nelson & Matilda Daulten married Rebecca Altizer, widow, age 42 on June 19, 1937 in LOGAN Co. WV. Rebecca was listed as the d/o Wm. Eastridge and Willie Grimmett [although this should be NELLIE Grimmett?] Simon Altizer , bn. 7-12-1893...died on April 21, 1936. as the 1940 censuses won't be released until next year, there is no way of knowing if Allen & Rebecca had any children. and here again, his second wife was aged 42 when he married her, so she also may have been a bit old to have children at this point? i really suspect she didn't have any children with Allen as she was BURIED under the name of Rebecca ALTIZER ! Rebecca Jane Altizer's death cert is listed at www.wvculture.org and shows her birth date as March 22, 1896 & dying on May 18, 1953 in Logan Co. WV....however the informant gave the incorrect info as to her parents' names. It lists her as widowed. something i found amusing in the hunt - -a marriage record stating that after Rebecca's father died , her mother remarried : Nellie Eastridge, age 65 [widow] married Floyd Bishop, 60 -widower - -on 9-6- 1926 in Logan Co. Hello... My great uncle Allen Nelson married a Rebecca Altizer in June 1937 in Davin, Logan Co., WV. Are there any ALTIZER researchers on here that may have a Rebecca in their tree?  I have never been able to learn anything about this great uncle.  My mother never knew him or what became of him, nor do any of our other cousins. Hi Bonnie, Owen Ellis' marriage record was in Logan County on 4/25/1917, and it says his wife was Laura O'Daniels, daughter of Ike O'Daniels and Olivia Grimmett. Owen (son of J.B. Ellis and Rebecca Toler) was 21, and Laura was 22, both born in Logan County, and both residents of Manbar. Owen was a miner at the time, and they were married by Dixson Ratliff. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=10897335&Type=Marriage The Social Security Death Index has: OWEN ELLIS, born 04 Mar 1897, died Jul 1969, last residence Man, Logan County, WV, and LAURA ELLIS, born 12 Aug 1897, died Oct 1985, last residence Verner, Mingo County, WV. The 1900 census listed Laura's birth date as Jul 1897 (Triadelphia District p. 63B), one month difference compared to the SSDI, and Owen's birth date as Mar 1897 (p. 64A). I noticed several WWI registration cards that had birth dates one year different than other records for the same person. Perhaps in some of those cases they were asked how old they were and when their birthday was, then the year was miscalculated?? I don't know, I was just trying to imagine how that could have happened. Most of the WWI registration cards had birth years that matched other records for the same person, but there were enough of them that were one year different that it caught my attention. Of course, we've all found that it's not uncommon at all to find records with conflicting ages and dates. Especially in the censuses. Notice that both Owen and Laura are listed a little older on their marriage record than they actually were.
